As of Jul 3, 2026, the average hourly pay for quantum computing research remote in the United States is $22.22, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.31 and $23.80 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Quantum Computing Research Remote jobs?

Quantum Computing Research Remote jobs involve conducting research and development in quantum computing while working from a remote location, rather than in a traditional office or laboratory. Professionals in these roles explore quantum algorithms, hardware, and software, and may collaborate with teams virtually across the globe. They often contribute to advancing quantum technologies, publish research findings, and develop new applications in areas like cryptography, optimization, and machine learning. These positions typically require a strong background in physics, computer science, or related fields, and proficiency in programming languages commonly used in quantum computing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quantum Computing Researcher (Remote), and why are they important?

To excel as a Quantum Computing Researcher (Remote), you typically need an advanced degree in physics, computer science, or a related field, with a deep understanding of quantum mechanics and algorithms. Familiarity with quantum programming languages (like Qiskit or Cirq), simulation tools, and experience with cloud-based quantum platforms are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective virtual communication are crucial soft skills for remote research collaboration. These competencies enable researchers to drive innovation, overcome complex challenges, and effectively contribute to global teams in a rapidly evolving field.

What is the difference between Quantum Computing Research Remote vs Quantum Algorithm Developer?

AspectQuantum Computing Research RemoteQuantum Algorithm Developer
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees in physics, computer science, or related fieldsSimilar advanced degrees, often with programming certifications
Work EnvironmentRemote research teams, academic or corporate labsRemote or on-site, focused on algorithm development and implementation
Employer & Industry UsageResearch institutions, tech companies, academiaTech firms, startups, research labs
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding remote research roles in quantum computingDeveloping and optimizing quantum algorithms remotely

Quantum Computing Research Remote involves conducting research in quantum computing from a remote location, often focusing on theoretical and experimental studies. Quantum Algorithm Developer, while similar, emphasizes creating and refining algorithms for quantum computers, which may also be done remotely. Both roles require advanced degrees and are prevalent in research and tech industries, but their core focus differs: research vs algorithm development.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote quantum computing researchers, and how can these be addressed?

Remote quantum computing researchers often encounter challenges such as limited access to specialized hardware, the need for robust collaboration tools, and staying current with rapid advancements in the field. Many institutions address these by providing access to cloud-based quantum processors and fostering strong virtual communication channels within research teams. Building a routine for regular knowledge sharing, attending virtual conferences, and collaborating through code repositories can help remote researchers stay connected and productive.

Job description

At Young Basile, patent agents operate on equal footing with attorneys, with the same compensation model, client development opportunities, and unlimited upside. Unlike many firms, our patent agents have a genuine path to substantially increase their compensation through both productivity and client development, without the artificial ceilings often associated with traditional patent agent roles.

Our dynamic, mid-sized IP law firm represents the world's leading computer software and hardware innovators, from early-stage startups to unicorns and global Fortune 100 companies. Our work spans cutting-edge technologies including artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, video encoding, quantum computing, and cloud computing. With approximately 50 attorneys and 30 staff across Michigan, California, and several other states, we offer the sophistication of a national IP practice with the collegiality and flexibility of a mid-sized firm.

We represent leading quantum computing and communications companies with a deep bench of experts. We are seeking a patent agent with a Master's or Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or a related field, together with substantial experience in quantum technologies.

We have a highly collegial work environment where patent agents are treated as valued practitioners and are entrusted with meaningful responsibility and direct client interaction.

Salary: Base salary of $160,000 to $200,000, with additional income opportunities tied to productivity and client origination.

Responsibilities

End-to-end ownership of patent applications for important clients in the quantum technology space.

Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications.

Prepare responses to Office Actions and conduct examiner interviews.

Coordinate and manage foreign prosecution strategies with international counsel.

Work directly with inventors and clients to identify inventions, develop patent strategies, and advise on portfolio development.

Important Qualities

Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines without constant supervision.

Clear, concise, and persuasive writing ability.

Excellent technical aptitude and the ability to quickly understand complex technologies.

Strong judgment and the confidence to manage matters independently.

Qualifications

510 years of patent prosecution experience, ideally with at least one prior role at a large law firm or top-tier IP boutique.

Significant experience with quantum technologies, including quantum computing, quantum communications, photonics, superconducting systems, quantum algorithms, or related fields.
