Job description

Performance Drone Works (PDW) builds technologies for the warfighter, by the warfighter. PDW is seeking a Quality Systems Engineer to join our team, contributing by ensuring AS9100 certification is maintained, ongoing compliance and driving the digital transformation of Quality Systems through implementation and scaling of eQMS automation platforms.
The ideal candidate will excel by working in an innovative and fast-paced work environment, have excellent critical thinking skills, and will play a pivotal role in driving efficient, compliant and scalable Quality Management System processes across current and future PDW locations.
What You'll Do
  • Play a critical role in scaling and maturing PDW's AS9100-certified QMS to support multi-site expansion and operational growth
  • Ensure ongoing AS9100 audit readiness across current and future locations, including internal audits, registrar surveillance audits and customer audits, including objective evidence readiness
  • Work directly with Manufacturing Systems and Automation leaders during implementation and integration of an automated, scalable AS9100-compliant enterprise Quality Management Systems (eQMS), that supports PDW's growth at current and future locations (e.g., ETQ Reliance, NetSuite)
  • Monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs); and verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions utilizing eQMS software with reporting metrics
  • Strengthen CAPA and Risk Management systems to ensure rapid issue resolution and systemic prevention at scale
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to embed quality into product lifecycle and production scaling effort
  • Ensure that Production Operations processes are effective by conducting regularly scheduled internal audits
  • Champion a culture of proactive quality and continuous improvement across the organization
  • Define and operationalize enterprise quality metrics and reporting
  • Support all current and future QMS activities at Huntsville, AL location

Requirements
  • Deep working knowledge of AS9100 Rev D, including clause interpretation and implementation, risk-based thinking, configuration management, product safety, internal audits and corrective actions.
  • Proven track record of leading AS9100 certification and sustaining compliance across single or multiple sites
  • Deep understanding of audit strategy, regulatory compliance, and risk-based quality management
  • Strong track record managing surveillance audits, customer audits, and multi-site audit programs
  • Demonstrated ability to standardize QMS processes while supporting operational scale and speed
  • Experience leveraging quality data and metrics to drive continuous improvement and executive decision-making
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on, translating requirements into execution
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to teams and conduct Process and CAPA training materials
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, Auditors or employees of the organization.
  • Certified ISO Auditor and/or Six Sigma belt holder is preferred.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, and move about regularly throughout the day and lift / carry up to 50 pounds. Must have manual dexterity to operate standard machine shop equipment as well as standard office equipment.
Work Environment
This position typically operates in a standard office and manufacturing environment. This role requires use of standard engineering and manufacturing equipment and may require occasional travel to customer locations or facilities. This position may have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and non-climate-controlled environments. May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the environment. This is a fast-paced work environment and requires cross departmental collaboration with independent and team-based responsibilities. Standard works hours for this position are 8:30am-5:00pm with occasional overtime as operational needs demand.
