Job description

SUMMARY:
The Quality Registered Nurse is responsible for leading clinical quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives across the organization. This role applies clinical nursing expertise to evaluate care delivery, identify opportunities for improvement, and support evidence-based practice changes. The Quality Nurse participates in clinical data analysis, review of patient care concerns and complaints, regulatory compliance activities, and development of corrective action plans. This role serves as a clinical resource to interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, safe, and compliant patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Apply clinical nursing knowledge to evaluate quality of care, patient outcomes, and safety events
• Review and analyze patient complaints, adverse events, and clinical quality indicators to identify contributing factors
• Conduct clinical data analysis to identify trends, gaps in care, and opportunities for performance improvement
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement corrective action plans
• Support and participate in root cause analyses (RCA), failure mode analyses (FMEA), and other patient safety investigations
• Monitor clinical compliance with evidence-based standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies
• Assist in development and revision of clinical protocols, policies, and nursing practice standards
• Participate in patient safety rounds, chart reviews, and clinical audits as needed
• Provide education and coaching to clinical staff related to quality improvement, documentation, and patient safety practices
• Support accreditation and regulatory survey readiness with a clinical focus
• Prepare clinical quality reports and present findings to leadership and quality committees
• Participate in hospital quality committees, performance improvement teams, and patient safety initiatives

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Strong clinical nursing knowledge with ability to interpret patient care processes and outcomes
• Understanding of healthcare quality frameworks (e.g., CMS, TJC, AHRQ, patient safety standards)
• Ability to analyze clinical data and translate findings into actionable improvement strategies
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex clinical environments
• Effective communication skills with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders
• Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards related to patient care quality and safety
• Ability to lead or participate in multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
