The Senior Total Quality Engineer is a critical role within our Total Quality Management team, focused on maintaining and enhancing our most valuable customer and supplier quality relationships, proactively improving the quality of the components we distribute, and the services we provide. This position involves direct interface with our key customers, primarily in the military, aerospace, and transportation industries, to address and resolve issues related to both internal processes and defective parts. The Senior Total Quality Engineer collaborates closely with our customers' Supplier Quality Engineers and Managers, internal departments and with quality and production personnel at our suppliers to ensure that all quality concerns are efficiently and effectively resolved. The Senior Total Quality Engineer provides insight to management on evolving trends, leads long-term strategic improvement projects and acts as a mentor to other Quality Engineers within the company and with personnel in our suppliers and customers. Our Senior Total Quality Engineers Team:
Customer Interface and Support:
  • Manage critical and complex quality issues to a positive resolution with our most important and sensitive customers and suppliers.
  • Serve as the primary Quality contact for key customers by leading interdepartmental and intercompany teams to responsibly meet or exceed the quality requirements of these critical customers.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to understand their quality expectations (Q-notes/clauses) to translate them into understandable actions for internal departments and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the customers' Quality Engineers to develop and deploy plans to improve our performance.
  • Proactively improve operational transactions between customers and TTI.
  • Professionally present improvement actions and programs to customers' management and their Quality Engineers.
  • Facilitate Source Inspections with key customers.

Internal Interface and Collaboration:
  • Proactively analyze data to discover trends in internal process performance and take initiative to establish and lead teams to improve our performance.
  • Lead & Mentor teams of Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse Operations & Suppliers to both resolve immediate problems and improve long term quality performance.
  • Contain problems rapidly and coordinate short term solutions to facilitate business until the Root Cause is effectively addressed.
  • Ensure teams find the true Root Causes and to develop and implement effective Corrective Actions (8D's) for key customers.
  • Act as the SME for quality activities and interactions for 8D's, audits, FAIR's, continuous improvement projects (e.g. 6 Sigma, Kaizen), and external standards.
  • Communicate frequently with all internal & external parties to ensure action items accomplished & progress is shared.
  • Communicate customer and 3rd party auditor expectations to internal departments in language they can understand and implement.

Supplier Interface and Collaboration:
  • Facilitate communication and problem-solving efforts between suppliers, TTI, and customers to resolve quality issues promptly.
  • Establish and properly communicate timelines to ensure customer expectations and supplier turnaround time is understood by all parties (returns, 8D's).
  • Develop multiple high-level relationships with Supplier contacts to determine and execute corrective actions and improvement plans with proper urgency, rigor, and escalation.
  • Using prior experiences, act as an SME to provide process advice to suppliers
  • Coordinate Mil-Std-790 audits and related initiatives.
  • Proactively improve operational transactions between suppliers and TTI.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Proactively analyze data to discover trends in internal, customer and supplier performance and take initiative to build teams to improve our performance.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of products and processes.
  • Utilize Quality tools and methodologies (5 Why Analysis, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.) to drive improvements.
  • Lead Six-Sigma Teams to address complex problems.
  • Present the quality performance and improvement activities for assigned key accounts and improvement projects to Total Quality and cross-functional management.
  • Develop new processes that both meet customer expectations and are efficient and cost effective for TTI.

Compliance and Standards:
  • Ensure compliance with industry-specific quality standards and regulations, particularly those relevant to the military, aerospace, and transportation industries. (AS9100, AS13100, TS16949, Mil-Std-790, etc.)
  • Facilitate Customer and 3rd Party Surveys & Audits to these standards.
  • Stay updated on changes to quality standards and regulations.
  • Function as a subject matter expert on First Article Inspections, ESD, MSL, PPAP and related mil/aero/transportation industry standards.

Total Quality Department Support
  • Complete assigned special projects in a timely and accurate manner by reviewing requirements with appropriate management, developing project plans and effectively completing assigned projects.
  • Support efforts to improve key metrics (Defective Part Resolution Life Cycle, RMA turn times, CA responsiveness, dPPM, COQ and others).
  • Provide input in strategic planning for quality department and initiatives, including the integration of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Serve as a mentor to Quality Engineers, guiding them in their professional development and in solving more complex quality issues.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g. business, mathematics, engineering, quality) strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a Quality Engineering, demonstrating a deep understanding of the tools and expertise in problem resolution and continuous improvement is strongly preferred. Experience within the electronic component distribution industry and working with military, aerospace, or transportation customers is highly desirable
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, especially one involving electronic components or cable assemblies is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership of Cross functional teams in problem-solving and process improvement initiatives.
  • Application of Industry Quality and Military Standards (AS9100, ISO9001, ANSI/ESD S20.20, Mil-STD-790, and others).
  • Experience performing First Article Inspections preferred.
  • Experience applying the principles of quality system requirements including Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities through a combination of data driven analysis and applied Quality Engineering tools. (Zero Defect, SPC, PFMEA, 5 Why's, etc.)
  • Experience leading inter-departmental & inter-company teams to solve problems.

  • ASQ certification helpful; Six-Sigma certification preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) helpful.
  • This position may require travel to customer and supplier sites, primarily within the US but occasionally international.
