Position Overview:
Flender, located in Elgin, IL is seeking a qualified and energetic Quality Inspector to focus primarily on its WIND aftermarket and secondary focus on its Industrial drives organization. The Inspector performs the inspection of mechanical components for industrial gear units, specifically components from dis-assembled units in preparation for rebuild/service for Wind Turbine and Industry unit repairs. The Inspector will also perform in process and final inspections of finished units along with ability to assist on incoming goods inspections.
Duties will also include supporting projects and initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance, efficiency, and safety.
Responsibilities:
Major Duties - Drive competencies in the following areas:
  • Perform inspection on main components of gearboxes and drive units.
  • Define damages on the inspected parts to give the proper disposition.
  • Gather detailed evidence of the damages to justify disposition.
  • Perform and interpret dimensional inspection reports.
  • Creation of formal inspection reports documenting the inspection findings.
  • Handle of specific software used for QA purposes.
  • Participates in problem solving to improve efficiency of inspections.
  • Contributes to the goal setting for specific projects, as required.
  • Maintain documentation compliant with the ISO regulations.
  • Support to production in Quality related issues.
  • Manage priorities in order to meet business needs.

Minor Duties:
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating and other process procedures, assist in resolving system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Participate in research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.

Required and Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:
Experience working with cranes and focus on safe work practices.
Strong organizational skills
Possess a mid level technical knowledge and assembly with Gear Drives (Winergy and / or Multi-Brand)
Ability to analyze customer's technical specifications, mechanical drawings, dimensional tolerancing and data comprehension.
Excellent team player with ability to work independently and perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers.
Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office tools, Outlook, SAP (a plus), TeamCenter (a plus).
Some familiarity with ANSI, ISO, DIN and NEMA standards.
Experience with NDT Examination especially Dye Penetrant Testing and Ultrasound (UT) (preferred, but not required)
Position Description:

Communicate results to support Customer repair needs by using an efficient utilization of resources. Interface with team members to support Project Manager(s), technical teams, division and product-line management. Promote maximum Customer satisfaction with the Flender's capabilities and potential, and Flender's equipment reliability and availability. Ensure the Customer's technical needs are adequately addressed.
Assist in providing root cause analysis support on all products (Winergy, Multi-Brand, and Industry units) to support field service technicians, in-house staff, certified service providers, OEMs and Customers.
