Job description

Thruway Fasteners, Inc. is one of the leading distributors of industrial products, supplying hundreds of original equipment manufacturers in 40 states and 28 countries. Headquartered in North Tonawanda, NY, Thruway has six branch locations across New York, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Execute processes in compliance with Thruway’s Quality Management System (QMS) which is certified to ISO-9001 and AS-9120. This individual is responsible for conducting the required inspections to ensure technical alignment of products to customer drawings and customer and industry specifications. This individual also strives to continually improve company quality performance and customer satisfaction. This position is cross functional to all of Thruway and fosters the company cultural belief that quality and safety is every employee’s responsibility.

This individual has responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Conduct incoming inspection on items requiring quality inspection
  • Conduct outgoing inspection on items or orders requiring quality inspection
  • Prepare and submit accurate quality documentation (e.g., MTRs, CoCs, FAIs, ISIRs, PPAPs)
  • Act as point person between customer and Thruway ‘s supply chain on all branch quality issues
    • Escalate major quality issues to the General Manager and Corporate Quality Manager for awareness and support
  • Issue, respond, complete and close internal and external CAPA’s as required, without un-due delay
  • Maintain calibrated and reference only equipment. Coordinate the calibration and verification of the equipment and maintain accuracy of Thruway's Calibration Log
  • Assist the CQM and GM in training and ensure branch personnel follow the Thruway quality manual, procedures, work instructions, and safety processes. Escalate any non-compliance to the CQM and GM
    • Notify the CQM of any ideas for improvement with suggestions and rationale
  • Assist the CQM in preparing for and undergoing internal, customer, and certification body audits
  • Perform and document monthly 6S Audits. Distribute audit report to the CQM and GM
  • Identify potential or existing safety hazards and other opportunities for improvement
    • Coordinate the completion of action items required to rectify any 6S audit findings
  • Assist with physical inventory and warehouse functions as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Documented Experience (2+ years) in a direct quality role preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing or warehousing environments preferred
  • Experience with Electro/Mechanical hardware/fasteners preferred
  • OSHA10 preferred
  • Process auditing experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and ERP systems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds.

TRAVEL: The majority of the time will be spent onsite at the Thruway distribution facility. Occasional travel to other Thruway facilities (NY, PA, GA) or customer locations may be required.
