Job description

Solatube is an award-winning innovator of high-performance daylighting and ventilation solutions for building envelopes. Our translucent walls, skylights, canopies, and smoke vents are engineered to optimize the role that natural light and air play in the design of buildings and the health and well-being of its occupants.

We are currently searching for a Metal Fabrication Lead who will set up and operate numerical control (NC and CNC) machines to fabricate sheet-metal production and R&D parts, applying knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication, punch and die clearances and bending parameters of specific materials. Lead Operator responsible for set ups, people training, quality control, trouble shooting and changeovers

Responsibilities:

  • Trains, prioritizes and assigns work to production operators as needed.
  • Ensures operators comply with established processes and procedures
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work-piece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, punching tools, and bending tools.
  • Calculates and Programs controls to regulate punching and bending factors, including editing G-Code software and machine controls.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance parts and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work-piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as calipers and micrometers
  • Checks quality control on all products and brings issues to supervisor or designated staff
  • Performs set ups for workstation such as assembly, packaging, shipping and labeling
  • May install sheet-metal parts to ensure functionality
  • May operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, supervisors, and management.
  • Completes accurately and in a timely manner all reports as required by the Company.
  • Attends meetings and classes as required.
  • Performs all duties safely.
  • Performs all related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree required. 

  • Mechanical and mathematical aptitude. 

  • Advanced mechanical training and extensive mechanical experience. 

  • Good communication, organization, and mathematical skills. 

  • Familiar with mechanical training and operation of various mechanical equipment, such as Amada Punch Press and Press Brake machinery.

  • Familiar with programing in FabriWin required.

  • Ability to be a team player.
