Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Quality Control Manager to be based out of Harvey, Illinois. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this person will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Quality Department for the Harvey Manufacturing and Shipping Operations. Included, this position will support plant level process improvement activities.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or equivalent along with a minimum of 5-7 years of quality management experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Quality department for the Harvey plant Manufacturing and Shipping operations and support plant level process improvement activities.
  • Develop and lead the Quality department to meet the demands of customer driven quality improvements.
  • Performs and documents of customer complaint root cause investigations.
  • Performs and documents root cause investigations related to product and component rejections.
  • Improve customer satisfaction by focusing on reducing or preventing customer complaints.
  • Coordinates with the Value Stream Manager to develop and conduct training on quality standards, measurement devices, quality alerts, procedure changes, etc.
  • Ensure effective manufacturing process control programs that maintain focus on Built in Quality and prevention of internal rejects.
  • Performs periodic internal audits of the Quality System to ensure that it is effectively established and maintained in compliance with ISO 9001:2015.
  • Create assessment-based qualifications for both the incoming Quality Assurance Technicians and manage this by means of a Skills Matrix.
  • Manage relationships and product compliance issues with customers and agencies (UL, CSA, etc.)
  • Presents quality data with analysis to the management team.
  • Support plant cost reductions and process improvement projects through the use of various Quality tools such as, FMEA, process capability, Gage R&R, SPC, pareto analysis, and other six sigma/lean tools.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or equivalent along with a minimum of 5-7 years of quality management experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) credential strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of metrology, inspection methods, blueprint reading, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), manufacturing processes, tube-making process, fabrication process, carbon steel and steel slitting.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Standards and Quality Management Systems required.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methods and experience with Six Sigma/Lean projects preferred.
  • Proficiency in creating, conducting, and analyzing data. With the ability to conduct complex problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office and Statistical Analysis Packages.
  • Excellent communication skills within all levels of the organization.

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Identify and hire 1 additional Quality Engineer to support the Quality department.
  • Educate yourself on product specifications, customer history, and existing quality processes.
  • Support operations on frequent quality issues and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and upgrade manufacturing inspection procedures.

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Update training and procedures to apply specifically to Harvey.
  • Establish full control of all Quality related functions (RMAs, Rework, Inbound Material Quality, etc.)
  • Partner with all functions to define process capabilities, assess gaps, and develop gap closure plans.

Within 12 months, you’ll:

  • Retain ISO certification process for the Harvey facility.
  • Improve incoming supplier quality.
  • Support plant process improvement projects using Quality tools such as FMEA, process capability, Gage R&R, and other Six Sigma/Lean tools.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $111,200 - $152,900. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
