Job description

KWS Seeds LLC in Tangent, OR is looking for a Quality Control Technician (full-time, permanent). The focus of this position is the daily activity of sampling and testing of sugar beet seeds at each phase of the production process with the goals of maintaining product quality.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct tests to include but not be limited to germinations, purities, TKWs, sizing, x-ray, moisture testing, genetic testing, plantabilities, stress testing, sample preparation, sample retention and seed quality standards.
  • Accurately create, update and follow Quality Control ("QC") standard operating procedures ("SOPs").
  • Maintain all lab testing equipment.
  • Data entry using multiple input tools.
  • Train new/temporary employees on all SOPs.
  • Develop, support and maintain respectful working relationships with all departments.
  • Work rotating shifts as needed.
  • Wear required Personal Productive Equipment as needed.
  • Work rotating shifts as needed.
  • Pull/Store samples and mix soil as needed (using a forklift).
  • Ensure Company handbook, Rules, Guidelines and Procedures, and safety policies are followed and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
  • Occasionally travel and/or drive and/or operate a forklift on behalf of the business.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Attention to detail and aptitude for multi-tasking.
  • Ability to use forceps with keen eye for detail.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts as needed.
  • Ability to become forklift certified.
  • Strong communication, organization and team leadership skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Proficient in MS based applications.
  • Knowledge of seed testing procedures.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data.
  • Valid driver's license.

WORK EMVIRONMENT:
Must wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as needed. Work in high and precarious places and able to cover multiple areas including staircases safely and quickly. Able to work in varied environmental conditions (loud, hot, cold, dusty, damp, etc.). Flexibility to work rotating shifts as needed (including weekend, night shift, and holidays). Ability to work individually and within a team setting.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms, and bend/twist. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
