Assistant Production Manager - Night shift

Shift: Supports 2nd & 3rd Shift (Flexibility Required)

**This position works closely with production leadership across all shifts, with a primary focus on supporting 2nd and 3rd shift operations. This position will highly be hands on and we are seeking a candidate with high mechanical aptitude.**


Position Overview
The Assistant Production Manager reports directly to the Production Manager and plays a key supporting role in overseeing daily production operations within the mill manufacturing plant. Flexibility in schedule is required to ensure consistent leadership presence and operational continuity.


This role helps drive compliance with OSHA regulations, quality standards, and customer requirements while promoting company Core Values and a culture of continuous improvement. The Assistant Production Manager partners with the Plant Manager and production team to achieve operational goals, maintain safety standards, and ensure products are delivered efficiently, on time, and within cost expectations.

Production Support & Operations:

  • Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating daily production activities across all shifts, with emphasis on 2nd and 3rd shift support 
  • Help prioritize and communicate production schedules and goals to supervisors and production teams 
  • Monitor equipment efficiency, material flow, and staffing needs to support optimal production output 
  • Support quality control efforts to ensure products meet company and customer standards 
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to supervisors, shift leads, and production personnel 

Communication & Team Coordination:

  • Collect, verify, and report daily/weekly/monthly production data 
  • Assist with scheduling production and indirect labor in coordination with Plant Manager and Operations team 
  • Track and report attendance, vacations, and staffing needs 
  • Maintain accurate production, inventory, and operational reports for leadership and cross-functional teams 
  • Support employee performance management, corrective actions, and training initiatives 
  • Assist in recruiting and evaluating potential employees 

Safety, Compliance & Maintenance:

  • Support and reinforce all plant safety programs and OSHA compliance requirements 
  • Assist in maintaining proper inventory levels of parts, equipment, and operational supplies 
  • Help ensure the facility operates safely and efficiently at all times 
  • Support implementation and adherence to quality control programs and SOPs, including PFI Standards 
  • Participate in environmental reporting (air/water quality) and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, and occasional weekends 
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills 
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and production best practices 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
