Job description

We are seeking Clinical Laboratory Technicians (CLTs) to join our PRN (as-needed) team, offering flexible scheduling while supporting laboratory operations during peak times and staff coverage needs.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Clinical Laboratory Technician participates in the multidisciplinary process of delivering diagnostic information to providers and offers ethical expertise to the professional medical staff. The Clinical Laboratory Technician will function within the scope of practice regulated by State and National government as well as various accrediting agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs patient and Quality Control (QC) testing, develops skills and maintains abilities in all assigned laboratory areas
  • Maintains proper inventories and correctly uses supplies and reagents
  • Performs advanced equipment troubleshooting and equipment maintenance
  • Ensure necessary procedures are followed before utilizing equipment after service. Workstations are restocked with supplies to maintain a consistent workflow. Specimen status (pending log, problems, critical values, etc.) is communicated to the appropriate person(s)
  • Participates in quality, safety, and compliance programs
  • Performs phlebotomy: capillary punctures, and venipunctures as appropriate for patients of all ages requiring the procedure  
  • Follows established safety practices including biohazards, exposure control plan (blood-borne pathogens), infection control to include universal precautions, employee right to know (hazardous chemicals), and chemical hygiene standard  
  • Promotes effective working relationships as part of a team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives
  • Attends all in-service and continuing education as required by health and wellness center, policy, and licensure requirements
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of Personal Health Information and adheres to HIPAA regulations
  • May be able to perform direct observations and do competency on other employees
  • Other duties as assigned by the lab supervisor  

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:  

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.  

Experience:  

  • One (1) year of experience in a clinical laboratory environment preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  

  • Current board certification (ASCP or another recognized certifying board).
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and should have LIS experience.
  • Good analytical judgment, troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Personable, friendly, team orientated.
  • Organized, accurate and detail oriented
  • Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and providers
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusion.
  • Potential for travel to other moderately complex labs
