Job Description
Reporting to the Plant Engineering Manager, the Controls & Automation Engineer is responsible for recovering and commissioning a retrofitted production line using Rockwell controls and compatible peripherals. The line is in active demolition/retrofit, has known scope gaps, and has immovable timeline constraints. The Controls & Automation Recovery Engineer is responsible for driving execution, verify deliverables, and ensuring the line produces quality sellable product at run-off.
Responsibilities
  • Restore the line to reliably produce all legacy and new products including safety validated, sequences verified, stable operation, repeatable quality
  • Create and maintain a single commissioning responsibility list with clear owners (OEM vs. contractor vs. internal), and close it with daily cadence
  • Deliver a controls-proof package including source backups and version control baseline, parameter registry, as-built I/O map, safety validation evidence, alarm strategy, and run-off acceptance results
  • Quickly learn the existing Rockwell architecture including PLC, HMI, safety, drives/motion, networks, field devices, I/O
  • Establish source control discipline including baseline backups, version history, change log and ensure the facility has usable copies of final programs
  • Lead troubleshooting and commissioning using a test-first, evidence-based approach and document what was verified and what remains
  • Translate commissioning needs into explicit deliverables for OEM and contractors including logic changes, drawings/redlines, test steps, punch list items
  • Run technical coordination with OEM programmers and electrical and controls contractor leads and escalate early with options when blockers occur
  • Prevent vendor drift using objective acceptance criteria and verification evidence and maintain a single source of truth for status
  • Coordinate with the Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer to ensure field device selection, wiring and instrumentation, and controls integration meet run-off requirements
  • Ensure safety, quality, and maintainability are addressed in real time
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years direct experience and responsibility for industrial automation in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated hands-on capability with Rockwell platforms (Studio 5000 / Logix) required
  • Commissioning experience including bringing equipment online in the field under schedule pressure
  • Ability to operate as an execution owner including build plans, close responsibility lists and verify results
  • Ability to interface with OEMs and contractors and hold them to objective deliverables
  • FactoryTalk HMI exposure or equivalent Rockwell-compatible HMI platforms
  • Safety systems experience including GuardLogix and validation workflows
  • Drives and motion exposure including PowerFlex, Kinetix or similar
  • Experience supporting production line run-off, SAT and quality sign-off
  • Ownership with commitments and escalates early, closes loops
  • Proven readiness with tests and artifacts
  • Absorbs plant context quickly with the ability to adapt
  • Ability to deliver improvements within constraints
