Job Title: Quality Control TechnicianJob Description

The Quality Control Technician performs hands-on quality control testing on the production floor in a food manufacturing environment. This role conducts routine inspections and audits on multiple production lines, verifies product quality through a variety of tests, and documents all results accurately in both paper and electronic formats. The technician collaborates closely with production staff to identify issues, correct errors, and help ensure that all products meet established food safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quality control testing on the production floor, including metal detection checks, leak tests, percentage tests, and other routine inspections.
  • Conduct hourly line audits on each production line, including first-piece inspections, in-process checks, and final inspections or quality control tests.
  • Carry out basic laboratory testing such as moisture, salt, and fat analysis using automated testing equipment.
  • Perform calculations to determine percentages of materials and total ounces for products and ingredients.
  • Accurately document daily test results, production numbers, and quality checks in both paper logs and computer systems.
  • Work closely with production personnel each day to perform quality control checks and assist in correcting errors or nonconformances that may occur.
  • Apply food quality and quality assurance principles, including HACCP and GMP practices, during all inspections and testing activities.
  • Support line audits and quality reviews to verify compliance with internal standards and customer requirements.
  • Participate in cross-training across all aspects of the quality department, performing both lab-based testing and on-floor quality checks as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area in accordance with food manufacturing and quality guidelines.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of food quality control experience, including exposure to HACCP processes.
  • Understanding of quality control processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of food quality processes and standards.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations using a calculator, including percentage calculations (for example, calculating 60% of 12 ounces).
  • Familiarity with quality assurance concepts such as GMP, line audits, and QC testing.
  • Ability to document data accurately in both paper and computer-based systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality and food safety standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma, HSED, or GED.
  • Experience working with HACCP and GMP in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Comfort working with automated testing equipment for moisture, salt, and fat analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with production personnel and other departments.
  • Willingness to be cross-trained in all aspects of the quality department and to perform a variety of quality-related tasks as needed.
  • Interest in professional growth within a growing business that offers opportunities for advancement.
Work Environment

The role is based in a smaller food manufacturing facility that produces large volumes of product for major retail customers and is expanding to serve additional large clients. The company operates a growing operation with a new pasteurization facility that supports increased production and creates opportunities for advancement. The schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work during the busy season. The Quality Control Technician works in both production and laboratory settings and will be cross-trained across the quality department, meaning some days may involve no lab work and other days may be entirely lab-focused. The environment emphasizes stable hours, year-over-year business growth, and the potential for upward promotion. The facility uses automated testing equipment and standard food manufacturing technologies, and offers good benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage.
