The OpportunityAct as a champion and driver of Safety, while adhering to company PPE and Safety requirements.Act as a champion and driver of Food Safety, while adhering to company GMP requirements.Manages and schedules the QA Technician team. Act as backup to QA technician absences as needed.Oversees the daily QA Technician work and inspections.Provides training, coaching, and development of the QA Technician team members.Regularly visits other shifts, ensures all food safety and QA tasks are completed.Manages QA department equipment, supplies /material inventories, housekeeping.Develop and maintain lab procedures and equipment checks, verifies lab proficiency testing.Manages required maintenance and calibration of QA Lab and QA relevant equipment.Creates, maintains and trains on documents and records required for the SQF standards.Develops best practices and drives continuous improvement and efficiencies for QA.Verifies and ensures that only current product specifications and related information is in use. Coordinates timely resampling of finished non-conforming product. Supports the day-to-day execution of hold and release process of raw material and finished goods.Supports the execution of the plant environmental sampling program.Supports handling of external samples for lab testing, customers, and corporate recipients.Supports effectiveness thorough investigation, root cause analysis, and CAPA for deviations, non-conformances or complaints. Completes related documentation and reports. Works with and provides technical food safety and quality expertise to other plant departments.Supports validation and qualification processes for trials, new products, equipment, and processes.Is a (or able to become certified as) HACCP coordinator and SQF Practitioner.Acts as a backup to the QA Manager and the Micro Coordinator as needed.Supports QA Manager with internal and external audits and performs GMP and Facility inspections.Supports compliance to company and regulatory requirements, certifications, documentation, standards, specifications and GMPs Communicates with senior management and corporate teams. Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, Chemistry, Food Science or related field preferred.
Experience:Two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Food Manufacturing environment experience strongly preferred.Knowledge and Skills:Must possess a strong working knowledge of food safety.Strong verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills. Ability to create momentum and foster organizational change.Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint or equivalent software. Experience with statistical process control, ERP systems, and QMS is highly beneficial.Experience with GFSI standards preferred.Certified (or able to become certified as) HACCP and SQF PractitionerBilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.Travel Requirements:Travel may be required to various plant locations for meetings or other job-related functions.Occasional local travel (<20 miles) is required to external 3PL Warehouses for inspections and sampling.Work Environment/Physical Demands:Approximately 50% of work is performed in an office environment. 50% of work may involve being in the refrigerated manufacturing environment (production floor, warehouses, freezers and other storage areas).The job activities may require sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs), climbing steps, stairs and ladders, work around chemicals, reading, tasting, smelling and touching of products, wearing of PPEs (hairnet, beard net, ear protection, eye protection, steel toed shoes) as required, capable of working in freezing environments for limited time.
