Job description

Job Position Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day quality improvements initiatives as well as the planning, coordination, and implementation of specific quality improvement projects.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering environment
  • Quality Engineering experience in aerospace manufacturing
  • Thorough understanding of inspection methods, techniques, and equipment
  • Experience with ISO-9001 or AS-9100 Quality Management Systems
  • Experience with common machine shop gaging and techniques
  • Ability to manage projects and get them done in a timely manner
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement and think strategically to enhance efficiency
  • Ability to identify root cause and determine corrective actions
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding of 6S
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading (GD&T)
  • Required to pass annual eye exam by licensed optometrist
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations
  • Strong understanding of AS9102 First Article submittal process
  • Ability to perform internal audits independently.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to safety regulation and standard. Follow Safety culture and wear PPE when required.
  • Serves as ‘Voice of the Customer’ reviewing concerns, questions and nonconforming material. Analyze failures; perform root cause analysis and corrective action for process related concerns and/or customer complaints.
  • Review, analyze, and determine root cause and corrective actions for internal nonconforming material.
  • Responsible for continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system and tools as well as work with manufacturing and engineering personnel in support of the quality function.
  • Interfaces with engineering and operations to ensure successful new product launches.
  • Supports the Quality Inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system and customer requirements.
  • Continuously improve first piece, in-process, and final inspection processes and procedures.
  • Follow 6S procedures and maintain a clean organized work area.
  • Posts Key Business Indicators in support of company and corporate goals.
  • Assists in developing personnel to improve skills required to reduce final inspection turn-backs.
  • Installs statistical sampling and monitoring of processes as required, reports on trends.
  • Assist the Quality Engineer Manager in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System.
  • Lead the submittal of First Article Inspection Reports.
  • Perform audits (6S, internal) and assist in external audits (customer, 3rd-party, registrar, NADCAP).
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal Production environments, subject to high noise levels from operating machines; physical hazards from moving equipment and sharp machine parts; breathing fumes, dust and mist; skin exposure to oil and cutting fluid; exposure to sharp metal edges, and forklifts.
  • May be asked to travel back and forth between Southwick and Westfield facilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have ability to read applicable customer/B&E documents with or without corrective lenses
  • May have to lift up to thirty (30) pounds at a time, as required
  • Ability to pass annual eye exam by licensed optometrist.
  • Must be able to push, pull, reach overhead, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend and/or sit for long periods of time
