Job description

Overview
The Quality Control Assistant Manager - Inspection Group supports the Quality Manager by overseeing daily inspection activities to ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and company quality standards. This role leads the inspection team members, drives continuous improvement initiatives, investigates quality concerns, and ensures compliance with established quality systems throughout the manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
(To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)
  • Supervise and lead the daily operations of the Quality Inspection team.
  • Ensure incoming, in-process, and final inspections are completed according to quality standards and inspection plans.
  • Monitor inspection results and identify quality trends, defects, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate nonconforming materials and products and coordinate containment activities.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Lead Layered Process Audits (LPA), Product Audits, and Inspection Process Audits.
  • Monitor audit findings and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
  • Participate in internal and external audits and support customer visits.
  • Maintain inspection readiness for customer, registrar, and corporate audits.
  • Support new product launches by developing inspection plans and validating quality requirements.
  • Train, coach, and develop inspection personnel on quality procedures, safety, and inspection techniques.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to team members.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality to resolve quality issues.
  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, ISO 9001/IATF 16949 standards, and company quality procedures.
  • Analyze quality metrics and prepare reports for leadership.
  • Support SQDCM meetings and drive accountability for quality-related action items.
  • Promote continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation, inspection records, and work instructions.
  • Track and report department KPIs including
  • Ensure a safe and organized work environment following all company safety policies.
  • Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by Quality Leadership, Plant Management, or Senior Management to support customer requirements, operational performance, quality objectives, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years in automotive quality systems and inspection management.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, 8D, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and quality management systems.

Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Experience supporting new vehicles or product launches.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and measurement equipment.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma knowledge or certification.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
