What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a QA Developer?

A QA Developer’s daily responsibilities often include developing and executing automated and manual tests, analyzing software requirements for testability, and reporting defects. You’ll regularly collaborate with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to review code changes and ensure comprehensive coverage of both functional and non-functional testing. Maintaining and expanding automated test suites, participating in sprint planning, and contributing to process improvements are also common accountabilities. This mix of technical tasks and teamwork plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality software products.

They work closely with developers to identify bugs, automate testing processes, and improve software reliability. QA Developers use various testing frameworks and tools to perform manual and automated testing. Their goal is to deliver high-quality software that meets user requirements and business standards.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior software engineers, especially those with expertise in high-demand areas like machine learning, cloud computing, or cybersecurity, can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. What does a QA developer do?

A QA developer designs, develops, and maintains automated testing frameworks and scripts to ensure software quality. They collaborate with development teams to identify bugs, improve testing processes, and verify that applications meet specified requirements using tools like Selenium or JUnit. Strong programming skills and attention to detail are essential for this role.

Is QA harder than coding?

QA developers focus on testing software to identify bugs and ensure quality, which requires attention to detail, analytical skills, and understanding of testing tools. Coding involves writing and maintaining software code, requiring programming skills and problem-solving abilities. Both roles have different challenges, and difficulty depends on individual strengths and experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Qa Developer position, and why are they important?

To excel as a QA Developer, you need a solid understanding of software testing frameworks, programming languages like Java or Python, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, and CI/CD systems, along with industry certifications like ISTQB, is often required. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills in this discipline. These competencies ensure effective identification and resolution of software issues, leading to reliable product releases and smooth team collaboration.

Is QA replaced by AI?

QA Developers focus on testing software to ensure quality, and while AI tools can assist in automating repetitive testing tasks, they do not fully replace the need for human oversight, critical thinking, and understanding of complex systems. AI can enhance testing efficiency but still requires skilled professionals to design, interpret, and manage testing processes.

Job description

Software Test Automation and QA Developer, Senior

The Opportunity:

Are you looking for an opportunity to not just develop software, but to build software that will support critical missions for national security? As a full-stack software quality assurance (QA) and test automation developer, you can solve a problem with a complete end-to-end solution in a fast-paced, agile environment. We're looking for a developer with the advanced skills needed to build test automation and high-quality software from vision to production-ready system, and to help mature software development processes and platforms to a DevOps posture, enabled by modern technologies.

This role is more than just coding. We need a software developer who will use their passion for secure, quality software and modern development practices to learn new tools and techniques, including using approved AI tools to recommend and implement DevOps software process improvements, automate testing, configure tools to support secure software QA, and mentor teammates. Using tools like GitLab, ReST, FastAPI and others that you may recommend, and software languages, including Python, Java, and VS Code, you'll build test frameworks, test automation software, and secure software solutions that provide data transport and Zero Trust capabilities to support customer missions. You'll support modernization and redesign of legacy workflows using AI software tools. You'll leverage communications skills to coordinate with team members and customers in a fast-paced mission environment and collaborate within the Atlassian Suite of tools. You'll analyze the needs and environment to make sure the solution you're developing considers the current architecture and operating environment, as well as future functionality and enhancements.

Join us as we build systems to change national security missions for the better.

Join us. The world can't wait.

  • Experience implementing version control approaches in software pipelines
  • TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or an Engineering field and 5+ years of experience with software, database engineering, or software testing, or 10+ years of experience with software, database engineering, or software testing in lieu of a degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with Playwright
  • Experience automating software processes with Salt or other automation platforms
  • Experience leading small technical or software development teams
  • Experience working with Atlassian Suite, and in the Agile software lifecycle, including Kanban approach
  • Experience with front-end development
  • Experience with modular design, middleware, or microservices

Clearance:
