Job Summary
The Senior Epic Clinical Pharmacy Application Analyst works on the build, implementation, and maintenance of information technology utilizing their expertise in Epic Applications. This position is responsible for optimizing pharmacy practices, pharmacy systems, and consults with organizational leaders on the medication management process. This entails intermediate to advanced analysis of current processes and workflows and change management strategies.
The Senior Epic Clinical Pharmacy Application Analyst provides project management support and leads project teams, coordinates work assignments and performs complex problem resolution as identified. This entails advanced ongoing analysis, process evaluation, and data reporting. Utilizing their significant experience, the Senior Epic Clinical Pharmacy Applications Analyst provides counsel and guidance that promotes best practices for clinical medication management, looking beyond the traditional means of delivering knowledge by analyzing complex processes and outcomes data from Epic Applications to develop and implement new solutions for embedding knowledge into the workflow. The Senior Clinical Pharmacy Application Analyst reports directly to the Information Systems Division (ISD) Manager /Director and may work under the guidance of the Lead Informatics Pharmacist.
The Senior Epic Clinical Pharmacy Applications Analyst is responsible for the build, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of Epic pharmacy applications and medication management workflows. This role supports medication build, formulary management, order set configuration, clinical decision support, and operational troubleshooting while collaborating with pharmacy, clinical, and IT teams to improve workflow efficiency and patient safety. The analyst also leads complex projects, resolves production issues, supports system integrations such as Pyxis and interfaces, and provides guidance on best practices for clinical pharmacy informatics and Epic Willow functionality.Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Pharm D. degree required
Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice as a registered pharmacist, Epic Certification required within 120 days of beginning EPIC curriculum/training.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Requires at least four (4) years of pharmacy experience with at least one (1) year of experience in Healthcare Management Information Systems (MIS) or similar experience in system analysis, design, building, testing and implementation
  • Four (4) years working knowledge of the medication use process preferred
  • Requires experience in implementation of large and complex Information Systems in a healthcare environment, change management, clinical informatics, project management, quality improvement methods and tools, data analysis methods and tools, decision support methods and tools, and electronic health records
  • Previous Epic or other Health Information Systems experience required
  • Experience in supporting complex problems
  • Advanced knowledge of information technology and Microsoft Office tools, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Visio or equivalent workflow documentation tool
  • Experience directing the delivery of effective Customer Relationship Management Skills necessary for efficient problem resolution to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Have the ability to understand concepts and translate them into actions
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Epic or other Employee Health Record (EHR) application support, development tools, and methodologies

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Data Information and Knowledge Management
  • Manages medication-related information while promoting integration, interoperability, and information exchange.
  • Maintains the data, information, and knowledge assets across Epic and all other supported systems that support medication management.

Technical Administration
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and techniques in supporting Epic Application Analysts and Lead Epic Application Analysts.
  • Responsible for providing technical knowledge in the support of software applications (including Epic) and various system environments.
  • Performs intermediate to advanced analysis, design, building, testing, and implementation of Epic Applications and supporting computer programs and systems.
  • Demonstrates and applies information systems theory, processes and methodologies.

Information and Knowledge Delivery
  • Delivers medication-related information and knowledge throughout the clinical knowledge lifecycle, from the point of knowledge generation through cataloging, embedding knowledge into the workflow, and measuring the usage and effectiveness of that knowledge.
  • Analyzes data for the purpose of understanding performance; evaluating process; and reporting, predicting, and harvesting new information to create new knowledge for improving outcomes.
  • Responsible for leveraging knowledge within a provider's workflow to improve caregiver effectiveness, work satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and the quality of care.
  • Must continue to evolve to optimize clinical decision support use and develop tools to reduce information overload and provider burden.

Applied Clinical Informatics
  • Applies user experiences, research, and theoretical informatics principles to improve clinical practice and usability.
  • Delivers informatics research principles and best practices to the bedside in collaboration with various disciplines to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of systems that support medication management.

Leadership and Management of Change
  • Leads and participates in the procurement, development, implementation, customization, management, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems.
  • Ensures that Epic and other integreated applications support safe and effective medication use and managing the risks and changes associated with the development, implementation, safety, and use of systems that support medication management.
  • Supports all requests for projects, service requests and problem tickets through the established channels in the Division with minimum supervision by manager/director or team lead.

Process Implementation
  • Develops, prioritizes and executes projects according to established schedules and timeframes while providing counsel and guidance to promote best practices.
  • Maintains an effective level of coordination on all assigned projects.
  • Plans, organizes, and assists in implementations, and the infrastructure required to support Epic and other applications, to meet current and future technology needs and supports the business goals and objectives of Memorial Hermann.

Clinical Development
  • Seeks input from physicians, nurses, and other professionals to identify problems, find and implement solutions, and communicate the findings to the Chief Medical Officer, ISD leadership, etc.
  • Designs, develops, analyzes, and evaluates system wide clinical pharmacy programs and that support hospital and organizational goals, objectives and strategies to achieve safe, appropriate, accessible, cost effective, integrated and collaborative high quality clinical pharmacy services that improve health care and safe medication use.
