Job description

The opportunity

As a Lead Quality Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical testing expertise and deliver a team-based quality strategy within Product Engineering, while also maximizing the value of existing and new tools to improve the effectiveness of QA efforts. This includes using testing tools, custom scripts, and manual testing where required for functional testing, performance testing, and test automation. In addition, you will lead testing responsibilities such as functional testing, test automation frameworks, load testing, software upgrade testing, and implementing enhancements to support IT systems.

Who you'll work with

You will report to the Product Engineering Lead in Public Investment & Trade Operations and collaborate with a talented cross-functional team, including software developers, business analysts, product owners, quality engineers, Quality Enablement, and end users.

What you'll do

  • Test integrations and solutions that span our investment lifecycle platforms, including Order Management System outbound data and integration feeds (Charles River Development), SimCorp Dimension (Book of Records system), FIS Quantum (Treasury system), and others.

  • Perform functional testing of new features and changes across various system components and custom code / apps to support Public Investment Operations, Trade Operations, investment teams, and business technology peer teams (e.g., EDW, Risk, Total Fund, etc.).

  • Collaborate with Quality Enablement and other Investment Technology QA teams to drive consistency in testing practices, standardize tool usage, improve testing efficiency, automation and AI usage, product/system and release quality, and strengthen cross-team collaboration and system availability/reliability.

  • Design and develop automated test scripts and frameworks using industry-standard tools and technologies.

  • Stay current with technology trends and directions through research, education, and self-motivated experimentation.

  • Maintain and enhance existing test automation frameworks and tools.

  • Identify opportunities for improving test processes and implement best practices.

  • Mentor and lead offshore QA team members on testing best practices, the use of AI, automation, troubleshooting, and project delivery support.

  • Directly participate in test scripting, issue debugging, performance and load testing, and troubleshooting using logs and other system feeds.

  • Act as a technical subject matter expert on applications and build partnerships with key business stakeholders within Product Engineering and Technology Services.

  • Apply advanced knowledge of applications, servers, databases, and code bases to build sustainable automated tests.

  • Analyze test results, generate comprehensive test reports, and provide feedback to stakeholders on the quality status of the application.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent training/industry experience.

  • Knowledge or experience in the investment domain is a strong asset.

  • Understanding of the investment lifecycle and operations is a strong plus.

  • 10+ years of experience in testing, SDET, quality engineering, or a technical test lead role, with at least 3 years of experience leading and mentoring junior testers or quality engineers.

  • Strong technical expertise balancing hands-on functional testing and the use of test automation tools and technologies, including TestComplete, ReadyAPI, JMeter, Playwright, QuerySurge, Python, SQL, Java/JavaScript, C#, and related scripting languages or AI tools.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining automation frameworks, including data-driven, keyword-driven, and hybrid frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience scripting automated tests, debugging issues, conducting performance and load testing, and troubleshooting defects using logs, system feeds, and application diagnostics.

  • Experience integrating automated testing into DevSecOps delivery models and CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GIT, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CloudBees, and related platforms.

  • Experience working in Agile teams, contributing to sprint planning and delivery, and adapting testing practices to Agile workflows.

  • Advanced understanding of the systems development lifecycle, including test planning, analysis, problem reporting, regression testing, implementation, and production readiness.

  • Practical knowledge of relevant technologies and architecture patterns, including AKS, C# / .NET frameworks, Python, SQL, GIT, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CloudBees, Azure SQL, Snowflake, Airflow, and web service architecture dependencies.

  • Ability to lead testing requirements for projects, prioritize multiple work assignments, provide work estimates and QA test plans, guide test strategy, and ensure testing activities align with project goals and delivery timelines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse test results, identify risk areas, make data-driven quality decisions, and recommend improvements.

  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Skilled in generating comprehensive test reports, communicating quality status, and providing actionable feedback to key stakeholders.

  • Curiosity and commitment to continuous learning, with the ability to stay current with technological trends through research, education, and self-motivated experimentation.

  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies, tools, and platforms, including cloud and containerization technologies such as Azure AKS.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
