Our client is looking for an SQL/Python Developer for a project and below is the detailed requirement.

Job Title: SQL/Python Developer

Location: NYC, NY  

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in SQL and Python application development.
  • Strong hands-on experience writing, analyzing, and optimizing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and database objects.
  • Proven expertise in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and database troubleshooting.
  • Strong programming experience with Python for application development, scripting, automation, and backend solutions.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
  • Ability to understand and analyze legacy Java code to support application modernization and migration initiatives (new Java development is not required).
  • Experience contributing to application modernization, code refactoring, and migration from legacy systems to Python-based solutions.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), coding standards, version control, debugging, and testing best practices.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Architects, Developers, QA, Product Owners, and Business Analysts.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work in Agile environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, develop, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects to improve application performance and scalability.
  • Perform SQL performance tuning, identify bottlenecks, optimize execution plans, and implement database best practices.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Python-based applications, scripts, and automation solutions.
  • Review and understand existing Java codebase to support ongoing maintenance and define migration strategies to Python.
  • Participate in application modernization efforts by refactoring legacy components into scalable Python solutions.
  • Troubleshoot application and database issues while ensuring high performance, reliability, and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with Architects, Product Owners, QA teams, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver high-quality technical solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, testing, and deployment activities while following software engineering best practices.
  • Document technical designs, database changes, migration approaches, and development processes to support long-term maintainability.
