Energy Storage Real-time Power Trading Analyst
Locations: HYBRID (Houston, TX area)
This is an opportunity to join an industry leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing that is focused on the development, execution, and operations of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. The Real-time Power Trading Analyst will help optimize energy trading performance and forecast revenues for active assets. The right candidate will bring strong initiative, focus, and analytical discipline to the role. Solid experience with SQL and Python REQUIRED. Quantitative or analytical trade desk experience is a HUGE PLUS

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Renewables Power Trading Analyst / Energy Trading Analyst - Trading Operations & Strategy Support: Assist in daily trading execution and administrative tasks under the VP of Trading & Risk, including support for market participation, performance KPIs (e.g., MAPE), and alignment of realized vs. expected PnL with Settlement Analysts.
  • Renewables Power Trading Analyst / Energy Trading Analyst - Market Analysis & Forecasting: Work with Market Managers to analyze performance across markets and conditions. Help develop fundamentals-based price forecasts (ERCOT & ISO-NE), incorporating supply/demand, congestion, and fuel pricing data.
  • Renewables Power Trading Analyst / Energy Trading Analyst - Data & Modeling: Gather and analyze market data (via API, web scraping) to inform and optimize BESS trading strategies. Use Python-based models to enhance bidding efficiency and profitability in DA and RT markets.
  • Renewables Power Trading Analyst / Energy Trading Analyst - Process Optimization & Training: Support internal teams by delivering training on trading procedures and ensuring compliance with operational protocols and market rules.
  • Renewables Power Trading Analyst / Energy Trading Analyst - Regulatory Monitoring: Track and assess market rule changes in ERCOT and ISO-NE to evaluate their impact on trading strategies and system performance

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science preferred) with 2+ years of relevant experience in the energy sector; power settlement experience (especially ERCOT and ISO-NE) is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); preferred experience with Python, SQL, and PowerBI. Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is a plus.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Abilities: Skilled in data analysis, problem definition, and drawing valid conclusions from complex datasets.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical analysis for both internal stakeholders and external audiences. Proven ability to collaborate across diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Location Requirement: Must be able to commute to the office in North Houston, TX area.
