Job description

Mechanical Engineer

Location: Irvine, CA

Industry: Advanced Aerospace & Mobility

Employment Type: Full-Time

About Our Client

Our client is an elite, fast-growing aerospace innovator that is completely rethinking how aircraft are designed, built, and scaled. Recognizing that traditional manufacturing cycles and legacy supply chains can no longer keep up, they combine startup agility with deep aerospace expertise. By leveraging automation, AI-driven development tools, and a fully connected digital infrastructure, they are actively reducing the barriers to production and driving the future of aviation.

If you want to move away from rigid corporate bureaucracy, work alongside some of the brightest minds in tech and aerospace, and build hardware that actually flies—this is your opportunity.

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to design and integrate complex mechanical and electromechanical systems powering next-generation hardware. This scope spans critical subsystems including positioning, propulsion, environmental control, and energy management.

This is a hands-on, highly collaborative position focused on developing production-intent hardware for aerospace, robotics, and advanced mobility platforms. You will own components and subassemblies from concept to validation to production release.

The Impact: You'll be directly involved in designing the foundational mechanical building blocks of complex systems—ensuring high performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets are achieved.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Integration: Contribute to mechanical system design and integration across multi-domain programs. Own components/subassemblies from concept through production release.
  • CAD & Documentation: Design and develop mechanical/electromechanical assemblies using Siemens NX (required). Create production-ready drawings with robust documentation and correct GD&T.
  • DFx Implementation: Apply DFM, DFA, and DFC principles throughout the design lifecycle to prepare hardware for high-rate scaling.
  • Supply Chain & Manufacturing Support: Collaborate closely with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to support part bring-up, first article builds, and early production runs.
  • Testing & Quality: Support inspection planning (IQC, OQC), tolerance stack-up, and production validation fundamentals. Participate in prototype builds, testing, root-cause investigations, and hardware refinements.
  • Analysis: Perform mechanical analysis including FEA, tolerance analysis, and basic thermal/structural evaluations.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience developing mechanical products.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (relevant professional experience accepted in lieu of a degree).
  • Software Tooling: High proficiency in Siemens NX is strictly required.
  • GD&T: Strong working knowledge of GD&T and formalized drawing release practices.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiarity with multiple manufacturing processes, including sheet metal fabrication, die casting, high-precision machining, and injection molding.
  • Quality & Validation: Exposure to quality fundamentals, inspection processes, and basic SPC concepts.
  • Mindset: An execution-oriented professional who enjoys finishing work that becomes real, tangible hardware. Comfortable working hands-on in a lab/production environment.
Preferred Experience (Plus)
  • Prior exposure to aerospace or aviation systems.

  • Experience in fast-iteration, high-performance environments (e.g., automotive EV, consumer hardware, robotics).
  • Familiarity with environmental testing standards like DO-160.

  • Basic analysis or automation scripting via MATLAB or Python.

  • Exposure to electric or hybrid propulsion systems.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Target Salary Range: $110,000 - $123,750 USD (Dependent on experience and skill level)
  • Perks: Competitive base compensation, equity participation, excellent growth opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k).
