Job description

Eaton's Aerospace Division is currently seeking a Lead Electronics Engineer. This position is based at our Irvine, CA facility. (Relocation is offered for a qualified candidate currently residing in the USA )
The expected annual salary range for this role is $112000 - $164000 a year.

What you'll do:
Position overview:
Come join a dynamic, fast-paced, team working on technology and components for the next generation of Aerospace military and commercial aircraft. The lead electronics engineer will provide expertise for design and development of electronics for both commercial and military aerospace applications. Some of the platforms you will be working on include fuel gauging systems and nose wheel steering systems, both in production and currently being developed. Like the automotive industry, Aerospace is currently in the process of electrification converting to a "more electric aircraft" that will provide significant environmental and cost benefits. **This role requires working on-site M-F at our Irvine, CA facility. If needed, relocation is available for this role for a candidate currently residing in the USA. ) Sponsorship is not availabele due to ITAR Aerospace requirments.
Primary function:
Reports to Engineering Manager, EECOE. The incumbent provides expertise for design and development of electronics for both commercial and military aerospace applications for gauging systems, ground fueling and electro-hydraulic actuation. Assignments will predominately be focused on new product development / sustaining and bringing products from the conceptual phase to product delivery and sustaining. Manages all technical aspects for these assigned projects and provides guidance to junior engineers.
Essential functions
• Interfaces with cross-functional development team, program management and customers to ensure overall technical compliance of the product and serve as an expert resource to other engineers
• Defines electronics architecture based on required functionality, safety and compliance with certification regulations. Technical responsibilities include circuit design, analysis, integration, debugging, establishing test methods and test equipment design. Responsible for quality of design, in terms of cost, performance, DFM, assembly and test
• Reviews project deliverables to ensure accuracy and adherence to schedules and production commitments
• Performs design & cost tradeoff studies. Directs product improvement and cost reduction initiatives by responding to internal and external customer requests
• Sustain existing product lines in production by troubleshooting LRU failures and determining root cause at PCB level. Assist purchasing and quality assurance departments in surveys, vendor selections, product evaluation, production support, and component obsolescence issues
• Prepares and presents technical information for TIM's, SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR for internal and external customers and management
• Documents function, design and test of electronic hardware and possible software, including Product Specifications, experimental test procedures, QTP, QSR, QAR, QTR, ATP
• Interfaces with fuel system engineers and other employees to define/allocate requirements for hardware and software
• Designs or supports design and development of low power analog and digital electronics including microprocessors for aircraft fuel systems
• Supports qualifications and experimental testing of components including definition, fabrication and operation ATE
• Supports proposal bids and risk assessment and mitigation for electronic development activities
Qualifications:
Basic qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering , Physics, from accredited institution.
• 5 years' experience in electronic engineering and circuit .. PCBA design preferred .
• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee

Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced Technical Degree Preferred
• Experience in design and development of airborne electronics
• Knowledge of associated FAA regulations and guidelines such as RTCA/DO-160, RTCA/DO-254, RTCA/DO-178B and ARP 4754, and military standards
• Knowledge of designing and testing for EMI/EMC, aerospace electrical/electronics, excellent analytical skills, strong design/synthesis skills
• Experience with fuel systems, fuel gauging, low power electronics and/or capacitance measurement
• Project management experience including schedule, technical risk and cost
• Prior aerospace industry experience is strongly preferred
• Familiarity with serial data formats and physical interfaces for ARINC, RS-485, SPI, I2C
• Six Sigma certification
• Understanding of software (embedded C, and Visual Basic and plus)
Skills:
Position Success Criteria:
• Solid knowledge of fundamentals of analog circuit design, digital circuit design, optoelectronics design, microprocessor/microcontroller hardware design, sensor interfaces, circuit Simulation using PSpice
• Must have strong planning, problem solving, organizational, project management and decision-making skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Knowledge in Cadence Allegro Schematic capture and layout, Altium, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and PSpice
• Must have a detailed understanding of electrical and electronics manufacturing processes
• Ability to use basic lab instrumentation, such as oscilloscope, logic analyzers, function generator, soldering iron, etc. as needed
• Hands on circuit board troubleshooting experience
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a lab environment is critical.
