About Us:
Join our AMETEK IntelliPower team, where we design and deliver high-performance, ruggedized uninterruptible power systems (UPS) and frequency/voltage conversion solutions to safeguard mission-critical operations. Be a part of a team that ensures the reliability and protection of essential systems in the toughest environments, making a direct impact on critical industries worldwide!

Job Summary:
The qualified candidate should have hands-on experience with Digital/Analog power electronics circuits. He/ She should be able to contribute to both existing legacy circuits, and to the design and development of the state-of-the-art Power Conversion Systems. The product line particularly consists of on-line Double Conversion Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and the related support circuitry. Candidates will be involved in every part of the development cycle from conceptual design to the implementation, testing, qualification, and on-time delivery. Candidates must be able to commute to offices in Irvine, CA and Orange, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on small-signal analog circuit design, build, test, and troubleshoot prototypes.
  • Conduct battery testing and support test system development.
  • Develop test setups and integrate circuits into hardware systems.
  • Validate circuit and system performance against design requirements.
  • Maintain the legacy products and contribute to the new R&D projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop system level testing and validation.
  • Combine legacy boards and products with the newly designed systems to realize a new operating product.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis of circuits and boards failures.
  • Analyze components stress, requirements, and select the appropriate parts.
  • Perform full product lifecycle which includes: initial design, design verification, qualification, initial production, and integration.
  • Other tasks assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Power Electronics, controls, and on-line dual conversion UPS.
  • Technical expertise in Power Electronics and converters, DSP interface, Digital and analog control loops, Magnetics (both high and low frequency inductors and transformers) and Battery energy storage.
  • Experience with Battery Energy storage systems (e.g. Lead Acid, Lithium Iron Phosphate etc.) for back-up UPS power.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscope, supply sources, signal generators, and circuits.
  • Proficiency with component modeling using PSPICE, MATLAB/Simulink etc.
  • Deep expertise in power switches, such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, SCRs, SiC technology.
  • Ability to independently design, develop and test the circuit boards and systems.
  • Hands-on experience in validation, verification processes and qualify new, or alternate components.
  • Knowledge of 1-phase and 3-phase PFC Converter; 1-phase and 3-phase Inverter; DC-DC High Frequency Converter and Buck/Boost battery Charger/Discharger. Power rating is from 500 watt to 20 kW.
  • Design/test for EMI filter.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). distilling date and generating test reports and presentations.
  • Due to the nature of IntelliPower programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, particularly with a focus on power electronics.
  • Familiarity with protocols such as RS232, CAN, SPI.
  • Familiar with various control loop designs (e.g. PI, PID, Feed forward, LC and LCL filter design, etc.)
  • Experience working with MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-1399-300B, MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-167A, etc.
  • Experience in relevant or similar industries such as motor drives, power supplies, etc.
  • Expertise in EMI design and practical troubleshooting.
  • Comprehensive experience with the complete product lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in PCB design and layout using Altium.
  • Expertise in design inductors and transformers, including high-frequency applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
