Job Details

We are seeking a self-driven, highly motivated, handsโ€‘on IT Security Engineer to serve as a subjectโ€‘matter expert (SME)/technical lead on our cybersecurity operations team. This individual contributor role focuses on operational excellence and maturity for different cyber operations processes, automation alignment, internal audit readiness (e.g., internal & external audits, including CMMC), and mentorship. The SME will work onโ€‘site, collaborating with junior staff, student contractors, and technical teams, while interfacing with nonโ€‘IT stakeholders to support secure, scalable cybersecurity operations.

Job Summary

Develops and implements information security architectures and solutions.

Essential Functions

Provides assistance with application development, database design, network, and/or platform efforts, helping project teams comply with policies, regulations, and best practices. Researches, designs, and/or advocates for new technologies, architectures, and security products that will support security requirements for internal and external partners. Contributes to the development and maintenance of information security strategy and architecture. Analyzes business impact and exposure based on emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and risks. Communicates security risks and solutions to others, as needed. May lead development projects and advise leadership and users on new or optimal technologies or methods to improve the functionality and/or efficiency.

Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience in related cybersecurity operations, engineering, or IT project management with technical background. Every 30 hours of college coursework can be substituted for one (1) year of experience, up to four (4) years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity operations, audit readiness, and security frameworks
  • Skill in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python)
  • Ability to prepare for and support internal/external audits
  • Skill in mentoring junior staff or student workers
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to nonโ€‘technical stakeholders
  • Knowledge of infrastructure fundamentals and ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow)
  • Ability to identify and automate manual cybersecurity processes
  • Skill in collaborating across IT and nonโ€‘IT teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following:
    Cybersecurity
    Computer Science
    Information Systems
    Engineering
    Business Administration (with IT or Risk focus)
    Psychology or Education (with technical experience)
Physical Requirements
