What is a Python Healthcare job?

A Python Healthcare job involves using Python programming to develop software solutions in the healthcare industry. This can include data analysis, automation, electronic health record (EHR) management, medical imaging, and AI-driven diagnostics. Professionals in this field work with healthcare data, ensuring compliance with regulations like HIPAA while improving efficiency and patient outcomes. They may collaborate with data scientists, medical professionals, and IT teams to create innovative healthcare tools and applications.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on in a Python Healthcare role?

As a Python Healthcare professional, you may work on projects such as developing data pipelines to handle electronic health records, creating algorithms to analyze patient data, building machine learning models for clinical predictions, or implementing interoperable healthcare applications. You'll often be part of interdisciplinary teams, collaborating with data scientists, clinicians, and IT specialists to translate healthcare needs into effective technical solutions. On a typical day, you might clean and preprocess large datasets, write and optimize Python scripts, and troubleshoot software integration issues. Gaining hands-on experience with healthcare datasets and championing data privacy are also key aspects of the role, making it both challenging and rewarding.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Python Healthcare position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Python Healthcare role, you need strong programming skills in Python, knowledge of healthcare data standards (like HL7 or FHIR), and experience with data analysis or machine learning, often supported by a degree in computer science, health informatics, or a related field. Familiarity with databases, cloud platforms, and healthcare information systems, as well as certifications in health IT or analytics, are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with clinical and technical teams. These skills are crucial for developing reliable solutions that improve patient outcomes and streamline healthcare operations.

How is Python used in healthcare?

Python healthcare professionals use the language for data analysis, developing healthcare applications, and automating tasks such as processing medical records and imaging data. Its extensive libraries like Pandas, NumPy, and TensorFlow support machine learning, data visualization, and AI-driven diagnostics in medical environments.

Job description

About Human Longevity, Inc. (HLI)
Human Longevity, Inc. (HLI) is a leader in precision health, combining genomics, advanced imaging, biomarker testing, and artificial intelligence to transform the future of proactive healthcare. Our mission is simple: help people live longer, healthier lives through earlier detection, personalized insights, and data-driven healthcare.
We believe AI will fundamentally reshape healthcare over the next decade. From clinician copilots and patient-facing assistants to autonomous workflows and intelligent healthcare operations, AI will become deeply embedded across every aspect of healthcare delivery.
We are looking for an exceptional Applied AI Engineer who can help build that future. This is not a traditional data science role. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building, deploying, and scaling real-world AI applications that create measurable impact across clinical, operational, and member experiences.
What You'll Do
As an Applied AI Engineer, you will build AI-powered products and agentic systems that help clinicians, care teams, operations staff, and members work more effectively.
You will rapidly prototype, deploy, and iterate on AI solutions using the latest advances in Large Language Models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agent frameworks, and healthcare data platforms.
Build AI Products
  • Design, build, and deploy AI-powered applications from concept to production.
  • Rapidly prototype new ideas and transform them into production-ready systems.
  • Partner directly with clinicians, operators, and business stakeholders to identify high-value opportunities.
  • Deliver solutions that create measurable operational, clinical, or member-facing impact.

Build AI Agents
  • Design and deploy autonomous and semi-autonomous AI agents.
  • Implement multi-agent workflows that automate complex healthcare processes.
  • Evaluate and integrate modern agent frameworks and orchestration platforms.
  • Build AI assistants that support clinical operations, member engagement, and internal productivity.

Develop LLM Applications
  • Build applications leveraging state-of-the-art Large Language Models.
  • Develop Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems across structured and unstructured healthcare data.
  • Optimize prompts, workflows, evaluation systems, and agent behavior.
  • Implement knowledge retrieval systems that unlock value from clinical, genomic, imaging, and operational data.

Engineer AI Infrastructure
  • Build scalable data pipelines and AI services.
  • Create reusable AI components, APIs, and internal platforms.
  • Improve reliability, observability, performance, and security of AI systems.
  • Support deployment and monitoring of production AI applications.

Own End-to-End Delivery
  • Take ownership from idea through production deployment.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, clinical, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve AI solutions based on real-world outcomes.

Required Qualifications
Healthcare Experience (Required)
  • 4+ years of experience building software, AI, machine learning, or data-driven applications within healthcare, life sciences, biotechnology, genomics, diagnostics, digital health, or clinical environments.
  • Direct experience working with healthcare data, including one or more of:
  • Clinical records
  • Laboratory data
  • Genomics data
  • Imaging reports
  • Physician documentation
  • Patient communications
  • Healthcare operational workflows
  • Strong understanding of healthcare terminology, clinical workflows, and the practical challenges of deploying AI solutions in healthcare settings.

AI Engineering Experience
  • Proven experience building and deploying production AI applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and modern AI application development.
  • Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic AI systems, prompt engineering, and workflow automation.
  • Strong product mindset with the ability to identify business problems and rapidly build solutions.
  • Experience deploying systems used by real customers, clinicians, patients, or operational teams.

Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with SQL and modern database technologies.
  • Experience with APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern software engineering practices.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, testing, and deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR and HL7.
  • Experience building clinician-facing AI products.
  • Experience building patient-facing AI assistants.
  • Experience with healthcare privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Startup or high-growth technology company experience.

Experience With One or More of the Following
  • OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or similar foundation models
