Airbus is looking for a Summer Intern - Airworthiness & Certification Engineering to join our Engineering Teams based in Mobile, AL

Join the Airworthiness and Certification department at Airbus. Operating strictly within the Airbus Design Organisation Approval (DOA) under EASA regulations, our team is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of aircraft safety and compliance. Our core scope includes certifying design solutions for aircraft upgrades and the associated Service Bulletins, issuing Aircraft Initial Delivery declarations, approving fleet in-service repairs, and conducting continuous DOA independent monitoring.

Meet the Team:

As our 2027 Airworthiness and Certification Intern, you will not just be observing-you will be fully integrated into our daily business operations. This role is designed to give you firsthand exposure to real-world aerospace certification while allowing you to take ownership of projects that directly impact our team's efficiency and performance. Through "over-the-shoulder" shadowing and formal Airworthiness faculty training, you will gain unparalleled insight into the lifecycle of commercial aircraft certification.

Your Working Environment:

Immersive Learning & Shadowing: Actively participate in daily operations alongside senior engineers, learning the intricacies of initial delivery declarations, repair approvals, and DOA monitoring.

Internal Communications: Manage and continuously improve our internal team communication platforms (e.g., team Google Site) to streamline information sharing.

Data & Performance Tracking: Design, build, and maintain performance and financial dashboards to help department leadership track key metrics.

Tool Optimization: Update and refine certification data tracking tools used for monitoring aircraft upgrades and modifications.

Program Highlights:

  • Must be willing to relocate to Mobile, AL for the duration of the internship opportunity

  • Direct exposure to EASA, FAA (other) regulations and Airbus DOA procedures.

  • Hands-on experience in project management, data visualization, and process improvement.

Your Challenges:

  • Participate in various engineering improvement and innovation projects such as automation, digitalization, API/web application development, data analytics depending on the student's capability

  • Generate engineering reports and templates as required to support current projects

  • Organize engineering data and provide assistance to route documents for review

  • Generate weekly status report to capture progress of related engineering activities

  • Attend and record minutes of meetings and coordinate with internal or external customers on projects as required.

  • Assist in the development of presentation material

  • Support department in Service Bulletin review, engineering support and project management.

  • Consolidate data into useful formats for future references.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Enrolled in an accredited, full-time 4-year engineering degree program in Mechanical, Aeronautical / Aerospace / Civil / Systems / Electrical / Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science

  • Minimum Sophomore level or enrolled in a Master's degree program is acceptable

  • Authorized to Work in the US without need of current, or future, visa sponsorship

  • Experience in leading engineering projects as a student, or have previous intern work experience leading projects independently, or as a research assistant working on projects under supervision at the university

  • Entry level of programming skills such as Python/Apps Script

  • Familiar with engineering tools such as Computer Aided design (CAD) and/or Analysis tools such as AutoCad/CATIA

  • Able to work with Google or Microsoft Suites

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote: Full-time onsite unless otherwise approved by management and human resources.

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings; daily.

  • Hearing: able to hear in order to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear safety warnings or alarms; daily.

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications; daily

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment; daily.

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs; once a month.

  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs; once a month.

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools; once a month.

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer; daily.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices; daily.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces; daily.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
