Job description

Job Summary

Caterpillar is looking for an Electrical Engineer 4 to support electronic controller failure investigations and product development validation. The role involves laboratory testing, troubleshooting electrical hardware, and supporting new product development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate production controller and electronic hardware failures.
  • Perform validation testing on NTI, NPI, and production components.
  • Execute test plans using laboratory equipment.
  • Analyze failure causes and document findings.
  • Review and develop test plans and test reports.
  • Track incoming/outgoing parts and maintain test documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and organization.
  • Present test results and failure-analysis findings to engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with global teams, suppliers, dealers, and engineering groups.
Required Education & Experience
  • 8+ years of experience required.
  • BSEE/BSEET with 8+ years preferred.
  • MSEE with 5+ years may be considered.
  • Associate degree in EE/EET with 12+ years may be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Internship experience may count.
Top Required Skills
  • Electronic hardware failure investigation and analysis.
  • Hands-on electronic hardware testing using oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, and other lab equipment.
  • Strong technical documentation of investigations, tests, and results.

Ideal Candidate

An experienced Electrical/Electronics Engineer with 8+ years of hands-on experience in controller/electronic hardware failure analysis, laboratory testing, product validation, and technical documentation, preferably with automotive, heavy equipment, or Caterpillar ECM/ECU experience.

Work Environment: Combination of office and laboratory work. PPE, including safety-toe EH-rated shoes and safety glasses, is required in the lab.
