What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ESAD (Emotional Support Animal Documentation) provider, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ESAD provider, you generally need a background in mental health or behavioral health, such as being a licensed psychologist, therapist, or counselor. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, HIPAA compliance systems, and legal documentation procedures is essential. Strong empathy, ethical judgment, and clear communication skills are crucial for building trust with clients and ensuring accurate assessments. These competencies are important for providing legitimate, compassionate support to clients while maintaining professional and legal standards.

What are ESADs (Emotional Support Animal Doctors)?

ESADs, or Emotional Support Animal Doctors, are mental health professionals who assess individuals to determine if they qualify for an emotional support animal (ESA). These professionals provide documentation, commonly known as an ESA letter, which can help individuals obtain accommodations for their support animals in housing or during travel. The process usually involves a psychological evaluation to ensure the individual meets the necessary criteria for an ESA. ESADs may include licensed therapists, psychologists, or psychiatrists.

Job description

This position has the option to be located in either our Cincinnati, OH or Mooresville, NC office.

As an Electrical Engineer specializing in Electronic Safe and Arm Devices (ESAD), you will serve as the technical authority and subject matter expert (SME) for solid-state, high-voltage ignition and initiation systems. You will work with cross-functional teams spanning electrical, mechanical, software, and systems engineering to drive ESAD programs from initial concept through architecture design, safety board review, and low-rate initial production (LRIP).

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with military fuzing standards, high-voltage capacitor discharge circuits, and safety-critical system logic.

Typical tasking will include:

  • Architecture & Design: Drive electrical architecture, schematic capture, and component selection for high-reliability ESADs, including high-voltage charging circuits dynamic switches, logic gates, and Exploding Foil Initiator (EFI) firing paths.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all designs comply strictly with military ordnance safety mandates, including MIL-STD-1316, MIL-STD-1901, and STANAG 4187. Formulate dual-fail-safe environmental logic architectures.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead internal design reviews (PDR, CDR) and serve as the primary electrical point of contact for customer technical reviews, government safety and key suppliers.
  • Analysis & Simulation: Perform worst-case circuit analysis, component stress and thermal analysis, and coordinate Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Testing & Qualification: Author comprehensive Design Verification Testing (DVT) and Qualification Test Plans (QTP) and manage JOTP-052 based environmental testing (shock, random vibration, thermal cycling, and EMI/EMC per MIL-STD-461).

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a highly related technical field
  • Minimum of 7–12 years of direct experience in aerospace/defense electronics, with at least 5 years specifically focused on ESAD, Electronic Fuzing Systems, or high-voltage energetic initiation
  • Deep understanding of high-voltage topologies, energy storage capacitors, bleed resistor design, and solid-state high-voltage switching (e.g., IGBTs, MCTs, Spark Gaps
  • Experience with microcontroller, FPGA, or ASIC-based safety architecture
  • Proven track record of guiding a fuzing/firing system successfully through military weapon safety board approval processes
  • Proficiency with EDA tools (e.g., Altium Designer), simulation software (LTspice/PSpice), and data analysis tools (MATLAB/Python)
