College of Liberal Arts - Purdue Polytechnic Institute Postdoctoral Fellow
Principal Duties:
The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) and Purdue Polytechnic Institute (PPI) at Purdue University invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in support of the Purdue University Books Initiative. This Fellowship offers an ideal professional development opportunity for Ph.D.s seeking a transition to career paths beyond academia and teaching (e.g., industry, publishing).
The Fellow will serve as an interdisciplinary expert at the intersection of applied innovation and scholarly publishing. By synthesizing complex research in the technology domain, the Fellow will help PPI faculty translate diverse technical breakthroughs into authoritative, book-length contributions.
This is a one-year, full-time, 12-month position with the possibility of a one-year renewal.
In this role, the Fellow will receive extensive mentoring in areas including technical and scientific writing; developmental editing; and project management. Specifically, the Fellow will work under the direct supervision of Professional Writing faculty in the Department of English to advance the scholarly mission of the university by assisting PPI faculty in the development and completion of high quality book manuscripts with academic publishers.
Specific duties will include the following:
  • Advance scholarly book projects with PPI faculty, as outlined above;
  • Provide expertise on academic writing and publication in the form of idea development, book structure, audience and market analysis. Specific tasks will vary depending on the projects assigned, status and progress of draft manuscripts, and individual faculty authors' experience and needs.

This Postdoctoral Fellowship comes with a salary of $65,000. Funding for the position is provided by the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) and Purdue Polytechnic Institute (PPI) at Purdue University.
Qualifications:
Required:
Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Communication, Writing for the Sciences, Science and Technology Studies, or a closely related discipline.
Preferred:
Experience in writing at the intersection of rhetoric, writing, and computer science. Editorial experience a plus. Publications a plus.
The successful applicant will be expected to have experience in at least some of the following: project management; drafting a manuscript for publication; editing and proofreading; compiling and translating data into effective visual contexts (tables, charts, etc.); rendering a content expert's specialized language (jargon) into clear, effective prose.
