Join the College of Agriculture Business Office and play a key role in supporting Purdue Extension's Field Extension operations, managing a diverse portfolio of state, federal, and county funds. Our team is collaborative, service-driven, and committed to delivering exceptional support across the state. This is an exciting time to join-Purdue Extension is undergoing a major transformation to a regional delivery model with a new financial structure. You'll be at the forefront of this change, helping refine processes, build trainings, and support implementation. As part of a team of six, you'll collaborate to enhance operations, develop reporting tools, and partner with Extension leadership to provide meaningful financial insights. If you're energized by change, collaboration, and making an impact, this is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of Extension's financial operations.
The Business Manager will direct the management of the finances and business office support for field extension with annual, weighted operating expenditures exceeding $33 million dollars. This position will play a key role in the preparation of financial and management reports to support long-range planning forecasts; budget recommendations, planning, and analysis; and financial analysis and strategic financial management of the department.

  • Serve as the resource/liaison for assigned area to the central offices.
  • Provide proper interpretation of University, Federal, State, and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with central business service operations and other related entities in meeting the strategic goals of the University.
  • Serve as mentor and key resource person to peers within the business office.
  • Maintain a unit that provides excellent business management support to the department Executive Leadership, Directors, Managers, staff, and students.

What We're Looking For:
Required:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or related area.
  • Two years of business administration, financial management, or related experience.

Skills Needed:
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, implement and communicate University policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, analytical, organizational, project management, financial analysis, supervisory, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes accountability, respect and teamwork to successfully guide the work of others.
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting business processes, e.g. SAP, etc.
  • Proficient in following software: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrate originality, creativity, and ability to resolve complex issues on a daily basis.

What is Helpful:
  • A demonstrated knowledge of sponsor and University regulations and basic proficiency in all technical and professional skills related to business office and contract grant management.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Cognos and Banner.
  • Six credit hours of accounting coursework.
