We are currently seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our team of skilled professionals based at our Bismarck, Missouri plant. This plant produces granules from raw material for our vertically integrated shingle manufacturing operation.

Job Summary
The Purchasing Agent will mainly be responsible for negotiating prices with vendors and contractors. This individual will also be working closely with various departments in the plant to ensure availability of equipment. This role will report directly to the plant manager.
Job Responsibilities
  • Analyze markets to assess present and future material availability and determine cost effective procurement strategies for the company.

  • Locate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales

  • Implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures

  • Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials

  • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers

  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy

  • Administer on-line purchasing systems

  • Arrange for disposal of surplus materials

  • Maintain records of goods ordered and received

  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies, services, equipment and raw materials

  • Ensure purchased items are delivered timely and as specified on the purchase order

  • Represent company in negotiating with suppliers directly, in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail

  • Support inventory control of finished goods

  • Work directly with Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Team to support maintenance activities and spare parts procurement

  • Support plant with HSE audit requirements including internal and external reporting

Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a purchasing-related field preferred, or equivalent work experience demonstrating relevant knowledge and skills.

  • Must have at least 5 years of working experience in a related role

  • Must have experience using ERP systems

  • Must have experience working in a manufacturing setting

  • Must be able to collaborate with multiple individuals or departments

  • Highly effective time management and task prioritization abilities

  • Strong organizational skills
