Job Summary:
1. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
2. Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.
3. Works closely with the principal/athletic director in scheduling inter-scholastic contests.
4. Recommends purchases of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.
5. Maintains or provides necessary information for attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
6. Supervises the safety and well being of the student athlete.
7. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
8. Establishes and maintains performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.
9. Coordinates and documents that the student athlete is physically fit to participate (medical doctor examination).
10. Enforces discipline and sportsmanship like behavior at all times, and established and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
Qualifications:
1. Valid West Virginia teaching certificate appropriate for assignments.
2. Non-professional coaches/sponsors must have successfully completed the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Education Program in Coaching Principles Course and the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Education Program in Sports First Aid Course. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
