Job description

Summary / Objective

The Supply Chain Director is responsible for leading and optimizing the end-to-end supply chain strategy for Interface, Inc., including procurement, sourcing, materials planning, inventory management, supplier performance, and supply chain operations. This position ensures that materials and components are available to support production and customer requirements while balancing cost, quality, inventory, and delivery objectives.

The Supply Chain Director develops and executes strategies that improve supplier performance, strengthen material availability, optimize inventory levels, reduce costs, and mitigate supply chain risk. This role works closely with Operations, Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, Sales, and Finance to align supply chain activities with company growth and operational objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute the overall supply chain strategy in alignment with company growth, production, customer delivery, inventory, quality, and financial objectives.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for purchasing, procurement, sourcing, materials planning, inventory management, and related supply chain activities.
  • Lead sourcing and procurement activities for raw materials, machined components, electronics, outside processing, production supplies, engineered components, and indirect materials.
  • Develop strategic sourcing initiatives that improve cost, quality, lead times, supplier capacity, and continuity of supply.
  • Lead supplier selection, qualification, development, performance management, and ongoing supplier relationships.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, payment terms, service agreements, and other commercial terms to maximize value and reduce total cost of ownership.
  • Establish and monitor supplier performance metrics, including on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, lead time, cost competitiveness, and overall supplier reliability.
  • Partner with Production and Planning to ensure material availability supports production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
  • Analyze demand, inventory levels, usage trends, lead times, and forecasts to establish appropriate inventory strategies and stocking levels.
  • Develop initiatives to improve inventory turns while minimizing shortages, excess inventory, and obsolete materials.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including supplier capacity constraints, material shortages, extended lead times, quality concerns, and single-source dependencies.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to improve material planning, purchasing, inventory management, forecasting, supplier data, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality on new product introductions, supplier qualification, component sourcing, engineering changes, and supplier quality initiatives.
  • Partner with Finance to develop purchasing forecasts, inventory targets, cost-saving initiatives, and working capital improvement opportunities.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives throughout procurement, planning, inventory, and supplier management processes.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for supplier performance, purchasing, inventory, material availability, cost savings, and overall supply chain effectiveness.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in supply chain, purchasing, procurement, materials management, planning, or related functions within a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership or management experience with responsibility for developing and managing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience managing purchasing, supplier performance, inventory, and material planning activities.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems; experience with Infor CSI/SyteLine strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience negotiating supplier contracts, pricing, lead times, and commercial terms.
  • Demonstrated success improving supplier delivery, reducing costs, optimizing inventory, and resolving supply chain constraints.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, production planning, inventory management, and material requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides leadership and direction to supply chain personnel, which may include Buyers, Purchasing Coordinators, Planners, Inventory Control personnel, Materials personnel, and other supply chain team members.

Work / Physical Environment

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment with frequent interaction in manufacturing, production, stockroom, and warehouse areas. The employee may be required to visit suppliers, customers, or other business locations as necessary. The position requires regular communication and collaboration with employees across multiple departments and organizational levels. Occasional travel may be required based on business and supplier needs. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
