General Position Summary: The Purchasing Agent is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, services or equipment as required for the business by making the high-quality andcost-effectivepurchases.

Essential Duties:

  • Monitoring and adhering to applicable laws, regulations and policies regarding the purchase of goods and services
  • Review inventory levels of raw materials
  • Purchase raw materials based on requirements to maintain production runs.
  • Purchase maintenance and factory supplies as required.
  • Review and maintain raw material costs.
  • Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the appropriate team members to determine costs and supply needs for production (i.e., cost increases from suppliers, obtain copper and other vital production articles).
  • Assist manager to evaluate market conditionswithin the industry while searching for suppliers.
  • Effectively negotiate and maintain professional business relationships with suppliers.
  • Acquire supplies that are critical for the success of business operations.
  • Support inventory cycle count program
  • Monitor obsolete materials.
  • Purchase the proper supplies and materials according to specifications.
  • Oversee distribution of supplies in the organization.
  • Keep detailed records on procurement activity, materials quantity, specifications etc.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate updating of the computer systems.
  • Maintain compliance with all Marmon IEI Environmental, Health and Safety policies
  • Support and participate in Lean/5S and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support activities within compliance to ISO Quality System procedures.
  • Provide coverage for planning department as needed.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of the Material Manager.
  • Work as a team with peers, managers and Marmon IEI employees.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business or a related discipline related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years previous experience as a purchasing agent or in a similar position
  • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of applicable purchasing laws, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to read and interpret production and materials reports.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory processes and cycle counts.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills.
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic, statistics, and other specific mathematical applications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Hands on experience with forecasting and budgeting.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, in writing and interpersonally.
  • Solid knowledge in Microsoft applications and applicable production applications.
  • Must be able to multi-task, follow priorities given, and have strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Self-starter: ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in Wire and Cable a plus

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position sitting, talking, looking at a computer, charts/graphs and performing repetitive motions.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE.
  • Ability to briefly work in warm and noisy environment while on the production floor.
  • Ability to move objects and materials of at least 25lbs.
