Purchasing Agent

Automation Personnel, Inc. is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Purchasing Agent to join our customers’ growing team in Channelview, TX! This role is responsible for sourcing and procuring materials for our steel fabrication and coating operations, as well as parts and supplies for shop equipment, forklifts, and semi-trucks. The ideal candidate will bring industry-specific procurement experience, strong vendor management skills, and attention to cost and quality. This role will also oversee Two parts drivers and Tool Room attendant.
 
Pay Rate 
$25.00- $30.00 per hour depending on experience
 
Schedule and Hours 
Monday through Friday, 8:00am- 5:00pm. 
 
Purchasing Agent Duties and Responsibilities
  • Source and purchase steel, coatings, and other materials required for fabrication and coating operations.
  • Order and track parts for shop equipment, forklifts, and semi-trucks.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Oversee tool room inventory and organization.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of two parts drivers and tool room attendant.
  • Maintain purchasing records and support budgeting goals.
  • Ensure all procurement complies with company standards and project requirements.
 
Purchasing Agent Qualifications and Requirements 
  • Must be able to lift 55 lbs. (lifting assessment administered in office)
  • Proven experience in purchasing or procurement within steel, coatings, or industrial manufacturing
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Working knowledge of steel grades, coatings, and related materials
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and cost-conscious approach
  • Prior experience supporting oil & gas fabrication or maintenance operations
  • Technical understanding of industrial equipment parts and components
