Job description

Role Mission
Under the guidance of the Shop Manager, the Electric Motor Mechanic will be responsible for repairing electric motors for various industries.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Review work orders to determine: job status, authorizations/limitations, an estimate of hours involved, and/or expected serviceability.
  • Test rotating electro-mechanical apparatus (AC and DC electric motors, pumps, blowers, etc.) to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods.
  • Disassemble electro-mechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration and condition.
  • Clean electro-mechanical equipment assemblies as needed using various methods and steps, including but not limited to: parts washers/steamers, etc.
  • Measure for or note proper replacement parts. Accurately request required parts and materials through the Shop Manager.
  • Replace or repair worn, or defective mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies, including but not limited to: bearings, brushes, brush holders, motor leads, gears, seals, impellers, mechanical switches, brakes, clutches, clutch rotors, fans, end shields, etc.
  • Retest reassembled electro-mechanical equipment for proper output and operation.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment and other equipment as needed.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects to perform work duties.
  • Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.)
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Adhere to all company policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • High School Diploma is required. Technical Certification or associate's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in rotating apparatus repair (AC and DC electric motors, pumps, blowers, etc.) preferably in an electric motor shop environment.
  • Mechanical skills in troubleshooting, electrical theory and understanding of AC and DC motors desired.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office products is ideal.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Must have the ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
