Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Reports to: Global Manager, Mechanical & Hydraulic Development. Location: Onsite, North Tonawanda, NY.

Key Accountabilities

Design & Development

  • Design simple to complex package system including pump, fittings, piping, valve and control system.
  • Perform Engineering calculation with minimal supervision.
  • Apply design‑for‑assembly principles and cost considerations throughout the design process.
  • Create mechanical models and CAD drawings for new products and maintain existing product designs.
  • Prepare detailed, production‑quality CAD drawings and review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to perform thermal analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to optimize performance of package system over equipment performance.
  • Ability to apply appropriate GD&T within component drawing based on the assembly and controlling key design aspect.
  • Perform tolerance stack‑ups for sub‑assemblies and assemblies.
  • Contribute to Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and other product‑related analyses.
  • Participate and lead detailed design review for new components and product launches.

Collaboration & Problem Solving

  • Work closely with cross functional teams in value stream such as product teams, quality and manufacturing personnel to address design challenges and resolve issues.
  • Lead technical discussion among value stream/ community.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary product certifications.
  • Engage with sales and customer service teams to understand and address customer‑driven needs.

Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Maintain BOM & Drawings in PLM system.
  • Provide input on process improvements, including opportunities to enhance documentation practices and design efficiency.
  • Liaise with testing and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary certifications.
  • Develop and adhere to internal and global design standards.
What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
  • 5+ years of experience working with design engineering in manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge or experience of centrifugal pump design and manufacturing is an asset.
  • Experience in designing pumping packages is a plus.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of GD&T standards.
  • Experience in designing electromechanical systems and controls (preferred).
  • Experience with PLM and ERP systems (e.g., Infor, SAP).
  • Familiarity with scripting (e.g., Python)/SolidWorks APIs, Macros, and/or other design/development automation techniques is a strong asset.
