What is public relations and how can I start a career in PR with no experience?

Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the spread of information between an organization and the public. PR professionals work to build and maintain a positive reputation for their clients or employers through media, events, and strategic communication. If you have no experience, you can start by developing strong communication and writing skills, volunteering for PR tasks in clubs or nonprofits, and seeking internships or entry-level positions. Networking and building a portfolio of writing samples or media placements can also help you break into the field.

What entry-level responsibilities can I expect in a public relations role with no prior experience?

As an entry-level Public Relations professional, you'll typically support senior team members with tasks such as drafting press releases, creating media lists, monitoring news coverage, and assisting with event coordination. You may also help manage social media accounts and track the effectiveness of PR campaigns. These tasks are designed to build your foundational skills and understanding of the PR industry, while giving you opportunities to collaborate with more experienced colleagues and learn best practices.
