Job description

About the Role
Our client is a CARF-accredited nonprofit serving children and families across Puerto Rico through our health, learning, and outpatient service lines. We are hiring a Director of Public Relations and Fundraising to lead the strategy that funds and amplifies that mission.
Reporting to the Executive Director and advising the Board, you will own our public voice and our resource development engine. You will lead a two-person department, manage outside agencies and vendors, and run our signature campaigns - the Christmas Seals Campaign, the Golf Tournament, the Tele-Radiomarathon, the Anniversary Event, and the Socios de Corazón membership program.
This is an onsite, full-time, W-2 position based in San Juan Puerto Rico.
What You Will Do
  • Build and execute the annual strategy for fundraising, marketing, communications, public relations, and volunteer services, aligned to institutional priorities.
  • Identify and secure external funding from private, state, and federal sources - including grant identification, proposal preparation, submission, and compliance follow-through.
  • Direct the Society's official messaging, own media relationships, and serve as spokesperson, including in sensitive or crisis situations.
  • Grow the Socios de Corazón membership program alongside the Board's Membership Committee, and steward relationships with donors, sponsors, and strategic allies.
  • Lead, develop, and evaluate a two-person department, and supervise external marketing, communications, and event vendors.
  • Build the volunteer services program across our service lines, from recruitment through orientation and recognition.
  • Represent the Society to the community, private sector, government entities, and partner organizations, and coordinate the Annual Assembly and official Board events.
  • Measure what works - define performance indicators for campaigns and marketing efforts and report results to leadership and the Board.

What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Advertising, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience at the coordination and supervisory level in public relations and fundraising.
  • Active Relacionista license from the Junta Reglamentadora de Relacionistas de Puerto Rico, in good standing at time of hire and maintained throughout employment. Puerto Rico law requires this license to practice public relations in this capacity.
  • Full professional fluency in Spanish and English, written and spoken. This is a business necessity for the role: you will serve as spokesperson to Spanish-language media and the local community while preparing and administering English-language federal grant proposals, funder reports, and communications with mainland sponsors and partners.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office technology.

Nice to Have
  • Nonprofit or healthcare fundraising experience, including signature events and capital campaigns.
  • Federal or state grant writing and compliance reporting experience.
  • Donor CRM or fundraising platform experience (we use Network for Good).
  • Familiarity with CARF accreditation standards.

Working Conditions
This role is performed onsite in an office environment on a pediatric healthcare and education campus, with a moderate noise level. It involves primarily sitting, speaking, and hearing, with occasional walking and frequent use of hands to operate equipment; it occasionally requires lifting or moving up to 30 pounds. Evening and weekend hours are required during campaigns and events, along with attendance at offsite media and community activities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Conditions of Employment
After a conditional offer of employment, all candidates for this position must complete standard pre-employment credentialing required by Puerto Rico law, including a Health Certificate, Act 300 clearance, ASUME certification, a criminal background certificate, and CPR and First Aid certification. Criminal history is assessed individually, considering the nature and gravity of the offense, the time elapsed, and its relationship to the duties of this position; a criminal record does not automatically disqualify an applicant.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Sociedad Pro Hospital del Niño, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, age (40 or older), physical or mental disability, genetic information, marital or civil status, veteran or military status, political affiliation or ideology, social origin or condition, status as a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, or any other characteristic protected by federal law or the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. We provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities and to applicants with sincerely held religious beliefs, absent undue hardship, and we prohibit retaliation against anyone who reports discrimination or participates in an investigation.
Our client is an EEOC Employer and encourages all minority groups to apply.
