APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE*** Job Summary This position for Public Service Intern 2 is within the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) Children's Mental Health Workforce Development Program. The typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m

Interns work 20-24 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours based on agency needs. All work is performed in-office. Public Service Intern 2's must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university.

Enrollment will be verified. Interns may remain in the position for up to six months after graduation. Public Service Interns will gain clinical experience through participation in DCFS Children's Mental Health community-based programs, including Children's Clinical Services, Early Childhood Mental Health Services, and Early Childhood Day Treatment.

Interns will work directly with children, youth, and families from diverse backgrounds while developing skills in assessment, treatment, and therapeutic interventions. Under general supervision, interns will provide community-based individual and family therapy. Responsibilities include completing assessments and evaluations to identify diagnoses, levels of care, and family needs; developing treatment plans and interventions; and providing case management services as needed.

Interns will use trauma-informed, evidence-based practices to help families meet treatment goals. They will maintain appropriate clinical documentation and support healthy parent-child relationships, strengthen families' ability to care for their children, and improve overall emotional functioning. Duties may also include completing risk assessments related to emotional disturbances and developmental delays.

Interns will receive live supervision from licensed clinicians and supervisors, as well as weekly direct supervision and/or clinical consultation. Under general supervision, Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study in order to enhance their academic training. Incumbents may be employed to intern in any professional occupation in State service.

This class may also be used when specific residency or practical experience is a requirement for certification or registration. Essential Qualifications Bachelor's degree related to the field of employment and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic graduate program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university. Job Duties Assist the regular staff in performing the duties required in carrying out the purpose and function of the work unit such as administering a program, serving clientele, or conducting research in a particular field of study.

Receive instruction from staff; observe and apply agency methods, practices and procedures to activities and projects. Assist staff in experimental and research work. Gather and analyze data and prepare reports summarizing conclusions.

Perform related duties as assigned. Public Service Intern IIs perform the range of duties described in the series concept while enrolled in a program of post graduate study. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General knowledge of: principles and practices of the professional occupation of interest.
