About the Role

The Library Associate position serves the community with exceptional customer service skills and must be tech savvy with excellent technical support skills to enhance our library services. This position contributes to the implementation of library programming and services. This individual provides broad-based support by working at the public service desk assisting the public, engaging with colleagues and supporting staff members.

Specific duties include reference assistance by finding answers to questions, helping customers use physical and online resources, and providing readers' advisory services. The Library Associate may also assist in collection development through assessing the quality of the collection as well as processing and repairing items. Tasks also include shelf maintenance by shelving and straightening library materials.

The Library Associate will open and close the facility on specified days, nights, and weekends and works with other location staff ensuring that the library environment is conducive for excellent customer experiences (i.e. reporting equipment problems, leaks, outages, etc. to Manager, supervisor and others as required). Additionally, the Library Associate is expected to serve as a system-wide library resource on nights and weekends and assist other library staff in proper implementation of library and city policies and procedures, i.e. circulation and registration, computer use, cash handling, and behavior guidelines.

The Greensboro Public Library reserves the right to transfer employees to other library locations as required by service needs. Employees of the City of Greensboro are expected to perform all duties listed in their position descriptions, as well as other related duties as assigned, according to the City's four core values of honesty, integrity, stewardship, and respect. The physical duties of the job include standing, walking, reaching, stooping, climbing, lifting, or pushing approximately 40 lbs. This employee must be able to work the required hours, including assigned weekends. This employee must also maintain a reliable means of contact (i.e. home or cellular telephone). This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Qualifications

What You Bring: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of customer service experience in a public library or retail environment. Customer service experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Experience using cash registers, copiers, and printers. Preferred Qualifications: Previous library experience using Integrated Library Systems (ILS) such as Wise, Horizon, Evergreen, or SiriDynix.
