SierTeK Ltd. is seeking a Public Health Technician/Epidemiologist to support an opportunity at Wright Patterson AFB, OH
Position Overview Section
We are seeking a highly motivated Public Health Technician / Epidemiologist to support the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) and the 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW). This position provides epidemiological expertise in support of operational health studies, surveillance activities, and scientific research that enhance force health protection, readiness, and human performance across the Department of the Air Force.
The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, clinicians, scientists, and military stakeholders to analyze health surveillance data, conduct epidemiologic investigations, develop scientific products, and support evidence-based decision-making.
Essential Job Functions
Epidemiology & Research Support
  • Provide epidemiological expertise in support of the Operational Consultation Support Team and the USAFSAM Studies and Analysis Portfolio.
  • Support the design, execution, and analysis of operational and public health research studies.
  • Assist with scientific investigations involving health surveillance, operational medicine, and force health protection.
  • Collaborate with 711 HPW researchers, military organizations, and public health professionals to identify and address operational health concerns.
  • Support epidemiologic analyses to improve readiness and reduce health risks affecting Air Force personnel.

Data Analysis & Surveillance
  • Design and conduct analyses using:
    • Health surveillance data
    • Electronic health records
    • Military personnel records
    • Operational data
    • Other military data sources
  • Collect, validate, and manage data from multiple government databases.
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative analytical methods to evaluate program effectiveness, operational outcomes, and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Produce routine and ad hoc analytical reports for government leadership.

Scientific Writing & Communication
  • Draft and edit:
    • Study protocols
    • Research proposals
    • Scientific abstracts
    • Peer-reviewed manuscripts
    • Technical reports
    • White papers
    • Posters
    • Briefings and presentations
  • Conduct scientific literature reviews and summarize research findings.
  • Present research findings to military, academic, and professional audiences.
  • Support preparation of conference presentations and scientific publications.

Program & Operational Support
  • Coordinate with scientists, engineers, clinicians, logisticians, and program managers on multidisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Obtain and maintain access to required research databases and data sources.
  • Participate in meetings with government agencies, academic institutions, and external subject matter experts.
  • Support knowledge transfer of study findings throughout USAFSAM and the Department of the Air Force.

Minimum Position Requirements
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Community Health, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in public health, epidemiology, aerospace medicine, military medicine, or healthcare research.
  • Strong knowledge of epidemiologic principles, study design, and public health surveillance.
  • Experience developing, administering, and analyzing surveys or questionnaires for research or occupational health programs.
  • Experience designing and conducting analyses involving:
    • Health surveillance data
    • Electronic health records
    • Military personnel and operational data
  • Experience supporting studies focused on force health protection, readiness, or operational medicine.
  • Ability to learn and utilize analytical tools such as:

    • R

  • Excellent technical writing, presentation, and scientific communication skills.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, scientific publications, presentations, and literature reviews.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to performance.

Highly Desired Qualifications
  • Previous military service or experience supporting military medical research programs.
  • Experience supporting the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), 711 HPW, or other Department of Defense organizations.
  • Experience publishing peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts.
  • Familiarity with military health surveillance systems and Department of Defense data sources.
  • Experience supporting operational medicine, aerospace medicine, occupational health, or force health protection initiatives.
