Job Summary
Provides academic and practicum instruction within the JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing. Plans,
coordinates, and conducts classroom and/or practicum experiences for students. Reports to the Associate Director for Undergraduate Nursing Studies or the Associate Director for Graduate Nursing Studies (depending on course taught) and the Director of the School of Nursing.
Essential Job Functions
  • Teaches and evaluates students in practicum, laboratory, and/or classroom settings.
  • Maintains academic standards as established by the University, College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the relevant department.
  • Participates in planning and organization of courses to which assigned.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of course activities.
  • Incorporates new knowledge and techniques in practicum, classroom, and laboratory teaching.
  • Displays a scholarly orientation to the assumption of the responsibilities of a university faculty member:
    • Utilizes teaching-learning principles appropriately.
    • Serves as a knowledgeable resource person to students and community.
    • Share professional expertise at the local level.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sport Management, Public Health, Physical Education, or a closely related field
    • Demonstrated expertise in the subject area(s) to be taught
    • Ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
    • Academic and/or professional expertise in one or more of the following areas: exercise science; kinesiology; sport management; public health; physical education/pedagogy; health promotion and wellness; motor behavior or biomechanics.
    • Applicants with interdisciplinary backgrounds that align with applied health professions are encouraged to apply.
    • Experience teaching at the university level.

Desired Qualifications:
    • Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., DrPH, etc.) in a relevant discipline
    • Prior college or university teaching experience
    • Professional or applied experience relevant to the discipline
    • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses

Supplemental Information
Key Competencies:
    • Teach assigned courses in accordance with departmental and university standards
    • Develop and deliver course content aligned with approved curricula
    • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback
    • Maintain regular communication with students
    • Comply with university policies, procedures, and accreditation expectations

Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.
Job Conditions: Work is performed in a classroom, lab, or online learning environment and may require extended periods of sitting or standing. Adjunct faculty are expected to be available for the duration of the academic term and to complete all instructional responsibilities, including grading and submission of final grades, as assigned.
