WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Computer Scientist (Informatics), you will:

• Analyze complex information technology requirements, evaluate emerging technologies, and develop innovative computer science solutions to support public health informatics and business operations.
• Lead the research, analysis, design, testing, implementation, and evaluation of enterprise software applications, develop system specifications, and provide technical guidance to ensure solutions meet organizational requirements.
• Develop data validation methods, coordinate database maintenance activities, evaluate system performance, and advise on database optimization strategies.
• Coordinate database standards, software upgrades, and data security activities while ensuring compliance with configuration management and backup procedures.

Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Basic Qualifications: You must possess a Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
AND
Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

• Applying advanced computer science principles to analyze complex information technology challenges and develop innovative public health informatics solutions.
• Researching, analyzing, designing, tested, and implementing enterprise software applications; evaluating software solutions; developing technical specifications; and collaborating with users and vendors to deliver mission-critical system enhancements.
• Administering database environments by optimizing performance, ensuring data quality, and supporting efficient data storage and retrieval.
• Developing database standards, managing system changes, and ensuring data integrity, security, and infrastructure support.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
