POSITION SUMMARY
The Harnett County Public Health Department is seeking a Pubic Health Nurse II in the Child Health division responsible for providing care and treatment of clients by maintaining clinical practices including but not limited to, child health assessments, administer treatments, immunizations, provide health education, referrals and follow-ups. This PHN will also function as the Lead Coordinator.
Hiring Salary:
Minimum: $72,657.00
Job Rate: $84,463.00
Mid Point: $96,269.00
Maximum: $119,883.00

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform well child assessments after completion of Enhanced role Nurse course.
  • Perform in-house lab procedures such as strep testing, rapid mono testing, urine pregnancy test, etc..
  • Administer immunizations to children and keep accurate records.
  • Provide counseling of adolescents on the subject of: nutrition and exercise, contraception, STD's, drugs, alcohol, etc...
  • Identify and report observed or suspected child abuse or child neglect.
  • Assist in making referrals as ordered by provider. Follow-up on referrals that have been made on patients.
  • Participate in continuing education courses to provide the best and most up-to-date care for the clients.
  • Follows established policies, protocols and procedures of Harnett County Public Health.
  • Will assist in Adult Health Clinic as needed.
** This position will be required to assist in emergency and/or disaster situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications - A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N. C. Board of Nursing.
All Public Health Nurses employed by a local health department shall complete an introductory course in principles and practices of public health/public health nursing and any refresher courses sponsored by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. 10A NCAC 46.0301 (2), (b), (c).
Licensing and Certifications:
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of, and skill in, the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities; ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions; adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, and accessing of information.
