Job description

Salary: $66,244.63 - $86,118.30

SUMMARY:


Under the general direction of the Health Director, responsible for the coordination and administration of public health information, education, and programs including but not limited to immunizations, blood pressure monitoring, tuberculosis and other health screening clinics with follow-up, communicable disease surveillance, accountability of state provided vaccines or town purchased vaccines, participation in Emergency Preparedness activities and drills, and all other duties relevant to public health issues as deemed necessary by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and/or the local Board of Health.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Promotes complete reporting of reportable diseases, including infectious diseases, tuberculosis, and lead poisoning.
  2. Conducts communicable disease investigations using the Massachusetts Virtual Epidemiologic Network following guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
  3. Collaborate with local schools regarding public health response and needs.
  4. Participates in planning for community health and social services for adults, the elderly, and special populations.
  5. Participates in the North Shore Mother Visiting Partnership, conducting nursing home visits for moms to new babies in Marblehead, and completing all requirements to meet the standards of the program.
  6. Maintains communication with personnel and services of the North Shore Pulmonary Clinic and/or all pulmonary clinics caring for Marblehead residents with active Tuberculosis. Serves as a case manager and completes Directly Observed Therapy (D.O.T.) as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
  7. Maintains an ongoing inventory of vaccines distributed by the Marblehead Health Department, reports all doses of vaccine given to the Massachusetts Immunization Information System, and maintains all requirements per MDPH for vaccine storage and handling. Organizes and participates in all immunization clinics with the Board of Health. Maintains records, prepares reports, and files such as statistical reports, annual reports, flu immunization, and model standing orders signed by our physician for the Board of Health and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
  8. Function as part of the emergency response Incident Command Structure (ICS) and participate in local and regional Public Health emergency response activities. Assist in the development and review of emergency response plans and help in managing operations of emergency dispensing sites.
  9. Assists Health Director and inspectional staff in foodborne illness investigations, camp inspections, body art establishment inspections, and Chapter II State sanitary code inspections as required.
  10. Continue professional development by obtaining the required continuing education units.
  11. Maintains records, prepares reports, and files such as statistical reports, flu immunization, etc., for the Board of Health and the State Department of Public Health
  12. Attend staff meetings
  13. Maintain and rotate all medical supplies and maintain inventory of Emergency Preparedness Supplies.
  14. Maintains and empties the Needle Kiosk at the Health Department when needed and updates educational materials accordingly.
  15. Research available grant opportunities and assist in the grant application process
  16. Make recommendations for program development to the Board of Health and assist in program implementation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


A minimum of at least (3) years related experience, public health nursing desired. Excellent organizational and communication skills necessary. Familiar with community environmental health and wellness initiatives. Able to work with minimal supervision and have the ability to supervise others. Knowledge of computer skills in word processing, database software, and other various computer programs. Continuous upgrade and expansion of knowledge of each aspect of technology related to the field.


REQUIREMENTS FOR MAINTENANCE OF POSITION:


Continue to maintain a current Valid RN license with renewal every two years.

Maintain current CEUs (approved credited classes in the field of study) necessary for license renewal.
