Job description

Metric have partnered with an AI companion wearable startup on a mission to make personal well-being genuinely accessible. Founded by product and engineering leaders from Meta and XREAL and backed by Lightspeed, the team are looking to grow.

Their product sits at the intersection of wearable technology, AI and psychology, helping users with emotional support, reflection and habit building through deeply personalised AI interactions that adapt over time. Think Oura, but for your mind.

They are now looking for a Founding Designer to own the connected app experience that pairs with the wearable as they move from early demo to scaled consumer product.

What you'll work on:

  • Owning the end-to-end UI/UX of the companion app, from information architecture and interaction to visual design, with obsessive attention to detail.
  • The full arc from concept to ship: wireframes, high-fidelity design, prototyping, and polish through implementation.
  • Rapid prototyping using AI tooling, including hands-on use of Claude Code, to go from idea to working prototype fast.
  • Shaping the emotional and behavioural experience of the product, and translating user psychology into product decisions.
  • Setting the design bar and holding the product to it, working directly with the CEO, CTO and founding research team.

What they're looking for:

  • 3-7+ years of UI/UX design experience, not including internships.
  • An outstanding portfolio showing strong craftsmanship, taste and attention to detail.
  • Consumer mobile app experience is a must-have, having shipped consumer-facing products users genuinely love and return to.
  • Fluency with AI prototyping tooling, including hands-on use of Claude Code and/or similar.

Bonus points that will make you really stand out:

  • Experience working on wellness, social, journaling, dating, companion, or habit-forming products.
