General Notes
The Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) provides a full range of university mental health services including time-limited individual therapy, group therapy, program development and outreach, psychiatric assessment and treatment, integrated healthcare, urgent care, case management services. Training and supervision are provided to psychology and social work interns, psychiatric residents, and psychology practicum students. The center's large, multidisciplinary staff includes psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, and licensed professional counselors.
Purpose
As CARE Coordinator, you will use your expertise to support the students enrolled in the Lyndon B Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs at UT Austin. You will provide short-term individual and group counseling and outreach to students who seek services with our program. Outreach activities may include presentations to student enrolled in your supported school, campus partners, supervision and training of social work / psychology interns and post-doctoral psychology practicum students, and development of training materials used within your area.
Responsibilities
Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and case management, to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Lyndon B Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs at UT Austin.

• Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns. Conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.
• Develop and implement a good blend of programmatic interventions which address the psycho-social mental health needs of students in the designated population or issue.
• Identify group assignment preferences and propose/develop new groups, as appropriate.
• Initiate advertising/recruitment and screening for group.
• Facilitate groups in accordance with service agreement.
• Demonstrate knowledge about group counseling and/or seek appropriate training.

Reviews client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintains current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Counseling and Mental Health Center, CMHC, policies. Coordinates referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers.
Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seeks consultation when appropriate. Provide urgent care services as necessary to students.

• Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations
• Develops linkages with key contacts of the designated population for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students

Provide outreach and support to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Lyndon B Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs at UT Austin and campus partners.

• Develop and provide workshops on mental health concerns for students, faculty and staff within identified college, school or unit
• Provide outreach to faculty/staff related to student mental health
• Provides individual consultative support to faculty/staff on student mental health concerns

Other required activities

• Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.
• Participates in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students.
• Comply with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.

May provide clinical training and supervision to social work and psychology interns, as well as pre-doctoral psychology practicum students.

• Provides individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric residents.
• Provides individual supervision of group co-leaders.
• Supervises interns' supervision of practicum students.
• Co-leads training seminars.
• Offers and supervises preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns.
• Participates on training-related committees.
• Participates in training activities during the orientation period.
• Timely signature on clinical documentation and communication with supervisor of relevant issues.

May be assigned other relevant duties as applicable
Required Qualifications

• Appropriate educational degree which meets eligibility requirements in the state of Texas for licensure.
• Licensed to practice independently in the state of Texas as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychologist.
• If licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year.
• Experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health setting.
• Demonstrated experience in providing brief individual therapy, crisis intervention, group therapy, care coordination, and case management.
• Experience providing culturally competent treatment to a varied client population.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in working with serious mental illness.
• At least 3 years of significant experience in providing short-term individual counseling and crisis intervention services to a culturally varied population.
• At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health settings.
• At least 3 years of experience providing crisis intervention, triage, care coordination, and brief therapy to young adults and/or college students.
• Experience working in a college/university counseling center or community-based mental health setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus personnel, such as professionals in academic affairs and other student services providers or ability to work effectively with non-mental health professional colleagues.
• Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team of mental health providers.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a large system, and to participate and collaborate effectively in a large mental health services agency.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a flexible yet highly organized working style.
• Licensed as an LPC/LCSW/Psychologist for a minimum of two years.

Salary Range

• Licensed Professional Counselor - $78,000 + depending on qualifications
• Clinical Social Worker - $78,000 + depending on qualifications
• Licensed Psychologist - $90,000 + depending on qualifications
