Instructor of Psychology Undergraduate Program | College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Social Sciences

Position Type: Adjunct / Part-Time
Location: On campus in traditional classroom setting

Position Overview

Shorter University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Social Sciences invites applications for qualified adjunct/part-time instructors to teach undergraduate psychology courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise, effective teaching ability, and a commitment to student learning aligned with the institution's mission.

Primary Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate psychology courses such as:
    • General Psychology
    • Developmental Psychology
    • Abnormal Psychology
  • Deliver instruction consistent with approved course outcomes and departmental expectations
  • Use student-centered, evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular communication with students (including timely response to inquiries)
  • Submit grades, attendance, and required assessment documentation by institutional deadlines.
Institutional & Professional Responsibilities
  • Support learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes as requested.
  • Adhere to institutional policies (e.g., FERPA) and academic integrity standards.
  • Contribute to a positive learning environment that supports student success and retention.
Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field, or
  • Master's degree in psychology, or
  • Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Psychology.

Additional requirements:

  • Agreement with Shorter University's Mission, Lifestyle Statement, and Statement of Faith.
  • Graduate transcripts documenting relevant coursework (official transcripts required upon hire).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated content expertise that is appropriate for undergraduate instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses (face-to-face and/or online)
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas)
  • Commitment to engaging, and ethical teaching practices
  • Courses may be delivered face-to-face or online formats.
  • Teaching assignments are based on departmental needs and enrollment.
  • Adjunct faculty play a key role in supporting student achievement and academic quality.
